We took at least one bite of ours. During our first year of marriage, the fridge at our apartment stopped working overnight so the cake had already thawed pretty much and had to be re-frozen. It was NOT good! Then we went out of town for our anniversary and it thawed a bit on the trip and had to be re-frozen again.
It sucks too, because we didn't get to eat any cake at our wedding besides the little pieces we fed each other. When we came home from our honeymoon we found out that my mom took our wedding cake leftovers to her class-- so people we'd never even met ate more of our wedding cake than we did! DH was so disappointed.
Luckily, my sister chose the exact same cake & flavors, so we enjoyed some at her wedding almost two weeks ago. It was worth the 2+ year wait!!

We didn't eat the cake from the day of, but our wonderful cake lady does anniversary cakes. So we had one of those! Speaking of which I need to order one.
Mine & DH one year anniversary is coming up on the 25th, and the top of our wedding cake has been sitting in our freezer for the past year. Well, sorta. We got married last June and moved from Kansas City to New Jersey in July. The cake traveled with us. One day in dry ice, the other in regular ice. So, I'm a little afraid of what this cake will taste like.
Anyway, just curious if anyone else did this and just how awful was it?
Sarah! I didn't know you and DH got married the same day and my DH and I did! Were you on the June TK board?
We did not save a tier. I did that from my first marriage (a long time ago) and it tasted awful!
cool that we got married on the same day!!
Nope...I mainly used TK for ideas, articles etc. Didnt start posting until we started ttc

Congrats on your upcoming anniversary! DH and I did eat our cake a few weeks after ( I had kidney stones on our anniversay and ended up in the hospital, no fun ) And it was Gross!!!! However alot of people say their cakes were fine! Hope it is good!
We saved ours and it was great. It was in our freezer just in the regular box with no plastic wrap and not only did we move, but we took it to Hawaii with us for our anniversary. We ate some every day and then tossed what was left. It was moist and amazing-no way could you tell it had been frozen.
I think the point of saving the top layer was that so it could be recycled for a baby shower 9 months later-at least that was what I was told.
We did! It was a nice tradition to actually follow through with. However, the cake tasted like the freezer smells. It was pretty stale. DH wanted to keep eating it, but after one bite I made him throw it away.
We didn't eat it on our 1 year anniversary. Instead, we took pictures of it after the wedding (the top tier) and went back to the same cake shop. We had them make a small cake that looked exactly like it and had fresh cake on our 1 year anniversary. I just couldn't eat frozen one year old cake.

The bakery we went through gives you a gift card to use towards your top layer of your cake on your 1 year, so we didn't need to save ours. We get to go get ours next week. 6/18 is our anniversary, I can't wait our cake was soo good!
Off bc since 2/11. Started opk's on7/11. Temping since 1/12. DH SA= Normal :)HSG was normal. 4th cycle of Letrozole 5mg daily. 3 failed iui's. Had 4th one done, fx for 12/18.
1st BFP 12/15/12
We will not be eating our wedding cake. We were saving it originally but now I am gluten free so I can't eat it. Plus, my mom made my cake so I can have her make me another one that's gluten free!
We ate ours on our one year anniversary. It was actually pretty delicious almost as good as the day of, but the fondant part was pretty icky. So if yours was a fondant only cake I'd say skip it, but anything else, it'll probably be yummy.

Our anniversary is June 25th too! This will be our second. Last year we did eat the cake. Ours was pretty terrible. Luckily we had only taken a tiny little piece to test the waters. We decided that little taste counted and called it a day. We have a collections of records, and I had bought the album with our song on vinyl, so we also had a little dance to our song. That is a much easier tradition to manage in my opinion.
We did not. We got married on a cruise ship and were not allowed to take any food off the boat with us due to customs. We did get to eat cake for dessert with dinner throughout the week we were sailing.
With that said, I don't think either of us would of wanted to eat the top of the cake a year later.

We did not. All of our siblings had warned us it was not worth it. Our bakery does make anniversary cakes though- small cakes with the same flavors as your top tier, decorated the same. We had one of those and it was delicious!
