s/o C-sections, any VBAC plans?

I had my first baby almost 10 months ago. After 24 hours of hard labor, I ended up with a CS for failure to progress and dips in his heartrate. I haven't had my first appointment yet to discuss a VBAC, but it is definitely what I want to go for. I am hoping that they don't give me a hard time with only 17 months in between births. Anyone else planning a VBAC?

  • Exactly the same story here.

I'm planning for a VBAC.  I went with a new provider this time and hope to labor with as few interventions as possible.  It's so hard to really know what to anticipate during labor, but I just want to try my hardest to give myself the best chance for a VBAC.  It's especially important to me because last time I wasn't able to produce milk and I've read that I have a better chance of producing milk with a VBAC.  We'll see!

  • This will be a VB2AC for me or at least that's the plan for now. I'm hoping I will be able to find a MW that will allow it on the military base. I hope you are able to get your VBAC :)

Same milk issues. My milk didn't come in until 5 days PP, he lost more than 10% weight, and I actually struggled with milk production for the 6 months that I BF. I am hoping for a better supply this time, and I totally forgot that a VBAC has some influence on that. Thanks for the reminder.

  • Did you try fenugreek for your milk supply?

  • I had a VBAC with DD! It was amazing. DS never progressed past 4 cm and never dropped. I was 10 days late with him. DD was 6 days late and I was given a small amount of pitocin to try to get things going a bit more. I was about 3 cm when I was went in on her birthday.

They are about 22m apart. If you can find an OB or MW that will allow you to at least do a trial of labor (41w) then do it. It was truly an amazing experience!!!

    Good Luck!

  • I did.  I tried lots of Fenugreek, nursing and pumping and nursing and pumping and nursing and pumping round the clock, oatmeal, mother's milk tea, lots of water, etc.  Nothing worked.  My milk just never came in :(  They kept telling me it would and after 2 weeks we just had to give up.  The very sad thing is that DS was a champ at trying to nurse.  He latched like a dream and far preferred nursing.  Because of this we had trouble getting him to take a bottle and he HAD to take a bottle since I had no milk.  For the 2 weeks I was waiting for my milk to come in we had to feed him formula for a syringe and he just kept dropping weight.  It was a nightmare :(  Really, REALLY hoping things go differently for me this time, but at least I know it might be an issue whereas last time I had no idea I'd have any problems!

  • I'm hoping for a VBAC also. I had a lot of the same issues - eventually C section because he wasn't descending. Had a LOT of issues with BFing but kept up Fenugreek and pumping after every time - plus my son would always fall asleep when nursing so that was a CONSTANT additional challenge. Was able to overcome the hurdles thankfully and nursed until he self weaned at 10 mos. So yes, definitely hoping for a VBAC and going to make some different choices this time to make it the best possible chance. I meet with a new CNM (vs an OB that I went weird last time) and am hoping and praying she will be supportive and consider me a good candidate.

I took 12 Fenugreek capsules a day for 6 months, gallons of mothers milk tea, oatmeal daily, lactation cookies, pumping around the clock. Made it until 6 months nursing, but just barely.

  • I'm hoping for a VBAC this time. With DS, I had a LOT of stress in the weeks leading up to his birth and my blood pressure went up. He was estimated to be 9 pounds a week early and that combined with my bp made my dr. decide it was c/s time. In hindsight I think he just preferred that method.

I'm using a different provider this time, and when I got my IUD out I made sure he and I were on the same page about the VBAC. He's supportive of it "as long as everything is healthy."

    Good luck to you!

Not sure yet. I'm keeping all options open. You are awesome for sticking with nursing for that long with supply issues. My supply is just now starting to plummet and it sucks.

  • I had a csection because I had preeclampsia and induction wasn't looking favorable. I was very stressed about trying an induction and ending up in a csection which is what my doctors ultimately thought would happen. My ob also told me that I had a veery small pelvic girdle which is odd because I'm not a small person. I guess it'll depend on what new ob thinks.
  • crossing my fingers that i won't have any issues this time around and i would love to try for a vbac...i still feel really cheated with my birth experience but not necesarily because of the c-section...olive ended up in the NICU for 16 days and i wasn't able to see her for the first 14 hours...i wasn't able to hold her until 26 hours after her birth...it was awful and completely unexpected...i would love the experience of holding my baby right away

  • I am also trying for a VBAC this time.  I was induced last time for showing possible signs of early pre-e, which looking back on, I don't agree with.  My induction failed, twice, and after 2.5 days in L&D, we finally went for a section.  I switched docs and have spoken to her once about it already but will do so again this week.  She seems pretty on board, as long as my pregnancy goes well.

Im in your exact situation. My DD is 8.5 months old, itll be 17 months between her birth and the new baby. I really really want to VBAC. The reason for the c/s the first time was drop in heart rate and going into distress. I have my first appt this week and we plan to talk to my OB about this. Hoping and praying he is on board with this.

  • I have pretty much been banned from even considering it, which I am perfectly fine with.  I am looking forward to the predictability of an RCS.

  • This will be VBAC #2 hopefully for me. DS was an emergency csection due to decreased heart rate. DD delivery was great and I am hoping for the same this time. But in the end what ever gives us a healthy baby will be ok with me.

  • Hoping for a VBAC here too, but unsure of what the doc will say as well.  I would like to try for it.  I had 22 hours of hard labor with DD.  She was posterior and was not progressing through my hips although she was close.  Hoping it works out this time.

I had a CS with DD last June, and at that point in time I was really concerned about if I could do a VBAC or not. After 10.5 months of thought on it, I think I'll volunteer for the CS again. They'd probably take me a week early and the bonus is that I get to avoid all the hours of labor again. And that latter part makes me super excited!

  • I will not be attempting a vbac. While my labor was perfect (until the final moments), I'm just too scared to attempt it. Maybe it there was more time between births, but as it stands right now, it's just not for me.
