I have found that my breasts feel very soft in the evenings. My daughter also tends to begin to suck and then spit out the nipple over and over. She immediately begins sucking her hands and flailing her head, so I am certain she is still hungry. Is this indicative of a supply problem? Should I be pumping or anything at night to help? Or will this eventually regulate on its own? Thanks.

Re: Soft breasts and frustrated baby in the evenings?
If you are worried about a supply problem you could do a weighed feeding, but if she has plenty of wet/dirty diapers she is likely fine.
Evening is sort of the witching hour for newborns. First, they want to cluster feed. DS basically stayed on the breast from 6pm-10pm until he was 8 weeks. He was working on building up my supply. Second, sometimes babies are just generally fussy in the evening so it could be part of that too. How long is this going on? I imagine in a bit your supply will increase to keep up with her demand and things will be fine.
not sure the exact timing for you, but hormone levels are their lowest around 4 to 7 in the evening & milk levels are as well according to all the LC I have spoken with. I have struggled the 1st several weeks around this time of day with all 3 kids.... the 1st 2 eventually worked it out for themselves, or maybe the witching hour phase passed?
