Do you remember...
the first day when you got your AF? My friend and I were discussing this, and i was really embarrassed, i dreaded telling my Mom. HER situation was that she was happy about it, and when she told her Mom they went out for ice cream, haha!!I also started mine in 9th grade, which compared to my friends was late, but that could have been because i was really active? I don't know.. Do you remember if you were happy, scared, sad? Did you celebrate it? =D

I started mine the summer before I started 7th grade (I was 12). I was mortified when my mom exclaimed to my dad "Your daughter just became a young woman!!"
WTF Mom!!!
I got mine the week of my Bat Mitzvah. It was the Wednesday before, the day when all of my family came into town. I made my Mom promise not to tell everyone. Well, by not telling anyone, she meant that she was going to tell EVERYONE. "Oh she really is becoming a woman this week!" There's nothing worse than 30 Jewish relatives telling a 13 year old "Mazel Tov" on your first period.
I still want to crawl into a hole when I think about it.
I was 11 years old and it was in the middle of a softball game. In white pants. Good times.
Later that evening, my dad came up to me, punched my arm, and said, "Way to go." Um, thanks?
I was 13 and my mom was so excited she baked me a cake. a pink frosted cake.
I will not be doing that for my daughter.
I got mine the 3rd day of 6th grade. I was 11. I was soooo happy the nurse had to tell me mom--she called my mom to bring new clothes for me bc my pants were a little messy.
That was right after the Cosby show episode where Rudy "became a woman" and they celebrated it, so I used that as a referece as to why I should get some sort of gift. My parents were like, "ummm no".

My first period memory is so embarrassing...but more so for my parents.
I got my period the summer before 7th grade around 11pm at night (fun waking up to that). I ran downstairs to tell my mom because I was so excited and I couldn't find her. I went to the backyard to find her and my dad having sex in our family swimming pool.
So yeah...that was fun.
Now that, my friends, is a memorable day.
I was 12 and got it while babysitting. I was really close with the family and spent the night at their place. I remember writing the Mom a note in the morning b/c I was embarassed to actually say it. I had to tell someone though b/c I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to do. I remember thinking at one point....OMG! Is this going to happen every day for the rest of my life?!?
I didn't tell my Mom until a couple of days later. I realized quickly that pads just weren't for me so I used a tampon. I had no idea that the tampon shrinks a bit so when I took it out I was moritified that part of it was stuck in me. I told her after this b/c I was freaking out.
It was a few days before my 15th birthday.
I had been complaining to my mom a few days prior that my side was hurting. I was worried it was my appendix, but she said to wait it out for a few days. I think she knew it was cramps.
Sure enough, a couple of days later, while I was out riding my bicycle, bam.
Ohmygosh.
I can never un-see that image. I will always associate my becoming a woman with seeing my parents doing it.
Worst.vision.ever.

This has to be the funniest story ever! I literally laughed out loud at my desk.

Ah, yes. My mother told me that tampons were for "married ladies." This incited merely one in a plethora of eyerolls she received from me in 8th grade. I got tampons from the daughter of on of the deacons at church on the sly. So there.
I don't remember anything about it. I know I was 16, that's about it. Is that bad? My memory sucks.
I was 11 and just starting the summer after my 5th grade year. I was the first girl in my class to get their period. (I was also the first to wear a bra) I remember a few months earlier my Mom had given me this big sample box of pads, liners and tampons. There was a booklet inside too. Mom just that I'd be needing those sometime soon. So, I didn't actually tell my Mom and just used everything in the box at first. We were in WalMart one day and I oh, so non-chalantly threw some items in the cart and that's pretty much how Mom found out.
I think I was 13 or 14 and was at a soccer tournament for the weekend. My mom never used tampons so I had to wear a pad. and play soccer. I remember being miserable.
I'm glad to hear that so many other mom's sucked at communicating about this, and sex. lol
I was 11, it was the summer after 5th grade I believe. I remember it was not long after we'd had the "girl talk" in school- didn't any of you guys do that?? I learned about sex and babies and stuff from a few videos and a little thing we did at school. All the girls in one room, the boys in another- I think most of the moms of the girls were there.... mine was at least.
Anyway, I don't remember where I was when I got it, but I do remember my best friend at the time being SUPER jealous that I got it before her because she's two years older than me. Turns out she didn't get it till she was like 16, so I REALLY beat her to the punch.
Little did we know how much we'd wish we didn't have it!
I also remember that when my little sister got it, she didn't tell anyone, just started using pads. My mom figured it out by noticing them in the garbage can. She also started shaving her legs without telling anyone..... she was always the quiet one though, and I'm the big blabbermouth.
I guess I am lucky because my mom had me totally prepared. I had a little make up bag that I kept in my backpack from the time I was like 10. It had pads and panty liners, an extra pair of panties, Tylenol and change so I could buy more pads if I needed them. I got mine the summer before 6th grade I was 11. My mom was watching TV and I went in and told her what I thought happend. Since I some how wasn't sure I showed her my panties!!! Yuck! I too made her promise not to tell my dad but she did.
It was a week before I turned 12. My family of 5 was doing a 6 week trip across the country in an RV during summer vacation. I woke up to it and was so embarassed that I couldn't tell my mom. Being that we were cramped in a 22 foot vehicle for hours at a time, she quickly figured it out. I remember that she was keeping a journal of the trip and I asked her not to document it.
The worst part was that we always chose campgrounds with pools and went swimming each night. All of a sudden, for those 5 days, I couldn't go swimming and my little sister got mad at me each night. I was mortified and knew that if I told, she and my brother would have made fun of me for the remainder of the trip.
My mom never used tampons or got bad cramps so I was stuck with pads (until I joined the swim team) and no pain medication. It was fantastic.
I have a friend who jokes that she will bake her daughter a red velvet cake when she becomes a woman.
Wow I can't believe how many got cakes and congratulations and stuff....I was so ashamed.....
I was 11 and in the 6th grade..............i got home from school and saw some blood....read up on the books they gave us in 5th grade with some pad samples...only bled very lightly for like 2 days. So i thought that's how all periods were. I was too embarrassed to tell my mom so the next month I got it and it was sooooo heavy so I stole pads from my sister's house and aunt's house when I visited them for awhile until I had to tell my mom. I was pathetic, i don't know why I was soooo scared to tell her. It's life!
