Would you eat Jimmy Johns?

Hello December Moms!!

I am craving Jimmy Johns so bad!!!  Not a veggie... But a Big Fat Vito (Italian) with Hot Peppers.  I know I am not supposed to eat lunch meat... but I feel like I have to have it!

Would you eat it?

  • Yes I would and I wouldn't feel guilty about it one bit.

  • I would occasionally have JJ's with SO for lunch when I was pregnant with DS.  DS turned out just fine.  I didn't have it often - just when we were out shopping and were both starving.
I don't recall if they heat any of their sandwiches up or not (I know Subway will toast their subs), but you could ask if they would.  That would eliminate most of the risk associated with the cold lunch meat.
Also I don't know how they store their meat during the day - if it is in a closed refridgerator or if it is like Subway (I'm assuming it is) in an open cooler.  The closed refridgerator scares me less than the open cooler, but like I said I had a few JJ's subs while pregnant with DS.

  • I wouldn't, but not because of the lunch meat concern; Jimmy Johns is just a terrible sandwich IMO. I don't see what all the fuss is about. But if it sounds good, ask if they can toast it if you're worried.

  • I would eat it if they could heat it a bit.  My OB said I could have fresh deli meats as long as it's heated for 20-30 seconds.

  • I love Jimmy Johns.

If your extremely worried, get the sandwich with the peppers on the side. Throw the sandwich in the microwave when it arrives and the add the peppers.

    Its all about moderation!

  • I would eat it. If you are really worried about the lunch meat, pull it off and microwave it before you eat. My dr said that like most things, lunch meat in moderation is fine. Lunch meat for three meals a day, every day, is more likely to cause issues.

  • Thank you for all the great responses.  I agree that it is about moderation... I think I will treat myself to a sub today:)  I might microwave it just to be safe! YUM!  Is it time for lunch yet:)

  • I crave their bread, so I get the BLT when I go there. But pre-pregnancy, I'd destroy a Pepe (which has ham) in a matter of seconds! Their pickles are pretty good also.

  • Hell yes I would.  I'd get the Italian night club which is just a bigger version of the Vito lol.

  • No. It makes me nauseous to think about. I did eat deli meat the other day, but I had them heat it up and it was sooo amazing.

This! This is my personal opinion  (and perhaps an unpopular one) but I think all the lunch meat restrictions are hooey! I have never known anyone to get sick from lunch meat while pregnant. My doctor does not seem to feel strongly about it either.

I just make sure that what I'm eating is fresh, and with lunch meat it's pretty obvious (not slimy or smelly)!

But as PP's have mentioned, if you're concerned you can get a hot sub instead of a cold one.
