Just stater thinking about the nursery, and I was wondering what other mothers enjoyed more. A rocking chair or a sofa chair. I figured I would be doing a lot of breastfeeding there and I can't decide which one is better. The rocking chair seems like it would relax the baby more but a sofa chair seems like it might be more comfy. Any suggestions?
Re: 2nd time moms, what chair did you preferred?
With my first I had a glider and used it every night for nursing. With the second she had a twin bed and a glider in her room. I ended up using the bed. My recommendation is to be sure that you are comfortable in a nursing position and/or that a boppy (or whatever) fits in there with you. My glider was too narrow for the boppy to fit in with me so I ended up using the arm rests as a support. If those had been higher it wouldn't have worked.
My glider was a cheapie from Walmart. It's held up. Unless you have a use for it after babies think about just how long you'll be using it when you look at prices. Once babies are done my glider is gone.
I have a glider right now. MH and I talked all the time for the first few months how we will we would have gotten the big sofa chair.
ETA: And we still use the glider to this day. That's what we sit for reading books and cuddling before bed.
I honestly think this is a good splurge & I think will be upgrade for this baby.
This exactly. Rocker/recliner. The gliders aren't very comfortable to nurse in, and you can sleep in the rocker/recliner on nights the baby is sick or fussy.

I used a glider rocker. I love it. We still rock DS in it to read books or when he is feeling snuggly. He even climbs up in it and looks at books by himself. I chose it because It has a highback and I could just relax my head back on it. I would make sure you sit in every chair and try them out. I also especially appreciated the pockets on the sides of the chair. We moved the glider from the living room, to our bedroom, to DS's room, and it never had a table next to it. HAving a pocket to put burp cloths in and bottles when he was finished. Good luck deciding.
It turns out the recliner was heaven sent because I had to have a c-section and it was the only thing that I could sit in comfortably and put my feet up (I was so incredibly swollen from all the fluids they pumped into me during the surgery). Plus even before delivery I slept in it a few nights because I couldn't get comfortable in bed.
And the added bonus SO can use it in his "man cave" once we are done with the baby thing.
I spent most of my time BFing in the recliner in the LR (it also rocked). Kid ate for 40min at a time every 2-3hrs in the newborn phase. I would have never left the nursery. This way, I could be lazy & watch TV and have easy access to food.
Get something you're going to want to plant yourself in for a long time. Eventually, we moved that into her room, but not until she was much older (say, 6-8mo or so?) when we really had a pretty regular bedtime routine going on.
A recliner...genius!!!! I dont know why I hadn't thought of that. Defintiely would be a better option than the glider!
