Still working?

I dropped down to 4 days about a month ago but it's not always been the case.  Sometimes I work from home on the fifth day or I am here half a day.  But today, today I am spent.  I can't imagine trying to do this for the next two (+) weeks.  How many of you are on maternity leave prior to the baby being born and when did you start?  I know this has been discussed before but I don't have a lot of energy to go looking...

I'm starting maternity leave as of this Friday, and hope I have a couple days of not working before baby comes...it seemed like a good idea when I first made the decision (to save as much time as possible for being with the baby) but I'm finding it exhausting now to try and work full time.

  • My last day is Friday. Since I work three 12 hour shifts work tues thrus and fri. If I were to go back on Tuesday (my Monday) it would be my due date. I decided that at that point I have earned a break lol.

I REALLY wanted to take leave starting at 38 weeks, and this week I am really tired and having a hard time keeping up with my patients.

BUT since I don't want to be induced I really have no idea of she will make a late arrival and I didn't want to have waste 4 weeks of maternity leave without my girl here. If I knew she would arrive "on time" them I would have bowed out a 38.

  • Reluctantly, I'm still working full time.  I go to my doctor this morning and am SO hoping that she decides to take me out early.  I'm done!

  • I'm still working (38 weeks.)  I only come in to work 3 days a week and the other two days I work at home, and my job is pretty sedentary and low stress, so it's doable.  I was saying to H that with the next pregnancy I'd like to plan to take a week or two off before the baby comes, even if it means I end up going into unpaid leave (right now I have exactly enough to have my 12 weeks off fully paid).  I'm just having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning ha, and by the time I come home and take a little cat nap, feed dogs, take them out, and have dinner, I'm ready for bed again so I feel like I have these last little things to get done - nothing major, just little things like cleaning the dining room, etc. - and they just aren't getting done.

But given the nature of my job, I can't really justify taking off earlier right now.

  • I'm 38w2d and still working full time. But I have a low stress desk job, so it's not a big deal. EDD is May 7, last day of work is May 4 (the Friday before).
  • I plan on working till I go into labor. I have a desk job so that part is doable. The exception I that will be if I get induced. Then I'll probably take the day before off to get ready for baby and rest

  • I'm still working.  My last possible day will be May 4th!  I have an induction scheduled for May 7th but I'm really hoping she comes sometime sooner than that :)

I just can't justify taking leave before she gets here as I only have 8 weeks paid and the rest I take, up to 12, will be unpaid.

  • I'm not due until May 20th but I think I'll be working until LO arrives. I'm finishing my current serving job next Wednesday but in the last month I've actually picked up a freelance project and on the 9th I'm starting a new job- they know I'm going to be out for awhile and are willing to work with me. I'm already so tired that I can't imagine keeping this up. I didn't even think about my doctor telling me to stop working at a certain point. I'll have to ask about it at tomorrows appt.

  • I am working 4 days a week right now. The plan is to work until 39 weeks.

  • I'm still in the office 40 hours a week :( I'm not sure how I'm going to survive the next couple weeks. Suddenly everyone has realized that I'm going to be gone and come out of the woodwork with, "ooo, by the way, I need you to do XYZ before you leave..."

  • I am working full time up until I go into labor.  I am trying to save as much PTO as possible for baby.  It is pretty awful...I live outside of DC and have an hour long metro ride into work everyday.  We live a little under a mile from the metro, so I walk to and from it each day.  Some days it is okay, but most days I am walking at a snail's pace by the afternoon.  Come on next three weeks!

  • Thanks ladies.  It's such a pain because I only get 6 weeks leave and I don't have any sick or vacation built up.  I am really bad at that.  I need to work so many hours for the insurance and it's just a struggle.  Some days are good and some days are bad.  I'm glad to hear others are still going strong because I have read some posts where ladies are on leave already and I am wicked jealous.  :)
  • I had planned on working until I went into labor (I'm self employed, only get paid when I work and have no maternity leave benefits) but the way I am feeling yesterday and today, I may stop working at the end of this week (38 weeks).

  • Yes I'm still working, but from home now.  Last Thursday was my last day in, not planned.  I started having cramping on my way home Thurs. night and DH wants me to stay close to home (I work an hour away).  So, I've been conducting business from here, but I really need to go to work to finish up some stuff there.  I'm hoping on Sat. DH and I can drive back and get some things done as long as baby doesn't show up.

It was becoming more and more difficult to get up and get there every morning, but it helped keep my mind off of the waiting.  Now that I am home, I'm not nearly as busy with work and am getting more exhausted taking care of DS all day by myself.  I think I'd be better off at work, lol!

  • I am still working full time and still grooming dogs on the side at home. I will be working my full time job until I go into labor, but I started grooming less dogs on the weekends the last couple of weeks, and will dwindle down more that I am getting even closer.

  • Yup tomorrow is my last day!  Yipee!

I am a teacher and I work about 45 mins from home/hospital I WANT to use.  There is a hospital about 15 mins from my school BUT i'd really rather not have to go there.  I worry as my mom had me and my next sister in 45 mins!  Soooo Dr suggested I stop as of Monday - but I have been coming in and will finish up tomorrow so my classroom is all ready to go for the sub starting on Monday!

I know some people don't see the point in stopping early, but I agree w/ those of you who aren't sleeping and super tired!  plus - driving 45 mins alone at 3pm is prime time for sleeping at the wheel for me!  not good!  Plus i have plenty of sick days to use!

  • I live in nj and they give you four weeks prior to your due date and six weeks after which totally sucks. I'm trying to figure out a way to work those four weeks and then take the four weeks after the six. If you don't use the four weeks before then you lose them so it doesn't really make sense to not use them. It just sucks cause what on earth will I do for four weeks especially if shes late?! Way to go nj...

  • This is my last week of work, thankfully NJ has some pretty good maternity leave laws, I am taking 4 weeks off before my due date.

  • I'm still working.  I'm due May 23.  My absolute last day is May 25, the Friday before Memorial Day.  If I don't have her by then, I will be induced the 30th.  I would love to take off earlier, but I'm already not getting paid for 1/2 my leave and I cannot take any additional unpaid time off.

  • I'm here for the long haul.  I work a desk job but have a terrible commute.  Hopefully I'll be able to work from home more weeks 38 & 39 but for now status quo.  I have so much work to do that I'm hoping I go a little late. LOL
  • I'm 37 weeks and a day today and finished working 4 weeks ago it was just too stressful on me and the baby bp was rising and they didnt like that so thanks to my job having great maternity leave I took the option my Dr gave me and left I can be paid up to 6 months but can be out for up to 1year and still have my position so I'll probably just be out 6 months, i've been trying to keep myself busy but thats getting harder the closer I get i'm uncomfortable and tired and ready for this LO to come...esp since I dont know the sex i'm curious if its a boy or girl.
  • I'm still working everyday and plan to up until I go into labor.  I have good days and bad, but my job is pretty sedentary and it keeps me busy.  I'm afraid if I didn't work I'd either be really bored or be spending too much money shopping or going to lunch, etc.  I don't really have anything left to do at home before the baby comes, so being at work is probably the best for me right now.  Plus it kinda makes the days fly by.
  • I will work up until the baby gets here because I don't want to use any sick or vacation leave. I sit at a desk all day so it is not too bad. The bad thing is if the baby is late then people are popping in every day to see if you are still there. I know this because I did it to a few of my friends here. :)

  • My last day was Friday the 20th. My back hurts way too much and im getting really uncomfortable, I go back Sept 1

  • I find myself hoping the baby comes so I won't have to go to work anymore, not because I am in any rush to have him.

Last time I worked up to the end, but this time I'm working until 39w1d. There is a conference the following Monday/Tuesday like 1/4 mile from my house so if I'm still pregnant, I might go to that.

2 weeks and 2 days of work to go! Not that I'm counting down...

  • My last day is May 2, but my replacement starts tomorrow so really, I won't be doing much other than supervising his training until I leave.

This day seemed so far away but now it's just next week! Ack!

  • My c/s is scheduled for 5/22.  My last day of work will be 5/18.  I am planning to go as long as I can before I take leave.  The only way I'll go off sooner is if I go into labor and end up having the baby sooner.

  • My plan is to work until I go into labor or my doc tells me I need to stop.. I was crossing my fingers that yesterday at my 36 week appt, he would tell me I need to start my leave. I'm losing my patience for 99% of my co-workers at this point.

  • I was taken off at 37  weeks and will be induced at 39. Short Term Disability kicked in when Dr took me off so I am getting paid 80% these 2 weeks then I will have 8 more weeks of STD after i deliver. Its nice being off work, but I am getting bored.
  • My last day is May 18 at which point I'll be 38w3days.  I'm taking vacation time the week after that so, technically, I'm getting paid until May 25.  I'm in Canada and get a year's mat leave so I felt comfortalbe to take off a little early.  I work a desk job and I feel pretty good still, so no need to go any earlier.  Only 3 1/2 weeks to go!

ETA:  Oh, and I'll be here full-time until the 18th.  I haven't needed to shorten my hours or anything.  My commute is 45-50 minutes one way and that seems to be the only thing bugging me so far.

  • I am still working full time and it really sucks. I am late at least 2 or 3 days a week (only 5-15 minutes but still). Luckily, my male boss has a 1 year old son and he is very understanding. It takes so much energy just to get myself out of bed, showered, dressed and to the office. I really wish that I could take a week before LO's arrival but unfortunately, only 76 hours of my maternity leave will be paid out and we just cannot afford to take any extra time off. After this pregnancy, I am definitely getting Aflac as supplmental insurance so that I can have more paid time off for my next baby.
  • My due date is next Sunday (May 6), so my last day of work is supposed to be Friday, May 4. I really hope I don't go too late because I don't want to waste my leave. I'll be gone between 6 and 8 weeks depending on if all goes well with my VBAC or if I will need another c-section.

I'm in the same boat. As a realtor, its pretty easy to keep things on a slower pace, and I've been doing that. I'm not aggressively chasing leads, etc. I'd love to just call it quits, but I've got some listings I'd like to sell before the baby comes and hopefully wrap up a few buyer clients too.

My house is a disaster though. I really need to stay on top of it better.

I already work a compressed schedule, 42ish hours in 3.5 days.  It has been HARD.  Luckily, this is my first week switching "roles" of what I do, so there is a little less stress, but I will still work minimum of 40 hours in 3.5 days.  I have two 12-14 hour days, and I think I can still manage that

I plan on working up until my due date, sort of.  See I'm due the day after Memorial Day (May 29), so technically I plan on working through May 25th.  However, I have told my supervisor if this schedule gets tough, I'll revert to the 8-5 schedule.  And if I do that, I do NOT plan on working 5 days a week.  I'll use vacation time and take off 1 day a week.  Luckily, they are awesome about flexibility with me, as my replacement is just about trained & ready whenever I stop working.

  • I was planning on working right up to when I went into labor.  I am due May 8th.  My last day will be 4/30 and I have a c/s scheduled for 5/1 at 8am.  DD is breech.  I wish I could take off time prior to her birth - but my maternity leave is unpaid unless I have vacation or sick accrued, so I planned on workign right up to when I needed to go to the birth center.

  • I'm working until May 18th, which is exactly one week before my due date. I can't see using more of my leave before she comes, because that would be that muchness time I get to be home with her before returning to work. Yes, I'm exhausted at work, but nothing to do at home.

  • Yep, and I am OVER it.  But, I have a desk job so its hard to justify taking off earlier when DD1 is at preschool and I would be sitting on my arse all day.  My plan is to have May 10 be my last day (due date is May 14).  But, I have been getting so uncomfortable I might stop a little earlier.

  • I am still working two jobs and I am absolutely exhausted all the time. I am not coming back after maternity leave to my full time job, and I am thrilled about it. I still have 5 weeks to go and some days are okay and some days are really difficult.
