I think there is a board somewhere about baby gear, but I thought I'd ask you guys. We just transitioned out of our infant car seat to a Britax Marathon in one car and a Boulevard in the other. They seem to be pretty much the same to me. We installed them rear facing. Anyway, I have some questions:
-Where are baby's feet supposed to go when he gets bigger? Just jammed up against the car seat?
-Is there an easy way to get LO in and out of the seat? I'm worried about bonking his head sliding him in, and the straps dont loosen easily. Do other people with this carseat adjust the straps every time, or just leave them on one setting?
-Do I really have to do this for a year before he can be forward facing? It looks so uncomfortable and it's hard to get him in and out of the seat.
Re: Britax car seats
I don't use a Britax seat but I may be able to answer a couple of your questions. Your LO can cross his legs and while it may not look comfortable to you, most kids don't seem to mind. I know many people with 3 year olds that still RF and are completely fine with it. They don't know anything different.
Yes, by most laws you have to keep your DS RF'ing until a year and 20lbs. It is suggested to keep them RF'ing at least until age 2 though. It makes a huge difference in case you are ever in a crash. I would research FF'ing vs. RF'ing in an accident before you make the decision to move him forward.
Also, I loosen the straps in my seat (Evenflo Symphony 65 e3) everytime I take her out so it's easier to get her back in.

Do other people with this carseat adjust the straps every time, or just leave them on one setting? I sort of tuck their heads toward their knees to get around the Boulevard headwings. I think the straps loosen really easily, and I always have the on the loosest setting before putting them in and tightening the straps. I pull the straps completely loose before unbuckling them to get them out.

Yes, I am sure I installed it correctly. I think I'm just used to the infant carseat, it was a lot easier to use (even leaving it in the car and buckling baby in while in the car). We were also using the VersaTether tied to the tether on the back of the seat, which made the straps get in the way. It seems like a really dumb design. So we switched to the second option of tethering it to a bolt on the floor, and it's a little better.
Not sure if anyone will look at this thread again, but what do you do about muddy shoes? do you take them off when they get in the car? otherwise it's dirty shoes all against the car seat.
Wow, I feel the same way!
- I already feel like my baby's legs are squished, it is a bummer that they have no leg room, but better to be safe.
- I loosen the straps every time, but from what I've found the straps don't loosen very much (they are short I guess?). I ended up taking off the grey things on them an it is a little easier.
- 1 year by law, 2 years recommended.
