I don't like when little kids and babies (especially boys) seem to have "perfect hair".

I feel kind of the opposite.

I agree.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for letting kids/babies get a little dirty and have a little fun.  However, when we go out, I feel like I should at least try and brush my kid's hair and wipe off her face.

Which brings me to another UO: I don't like bare feet on babies/tots in public.  I don't care if they aren't walking.  It just doesn't look right.  The other day I took Audrey into Target wearing a t-shirt, diaper (cloth, so at least it was cute) and nothing else.  I felt so tacky. Embarrassed Maybe this is just me and I need to get over it though.

I'm not saying that I like when kids look messy, snotty, etc., but I think it's just perfectly coiffed that bothers me.  It's almost like you don't let your kid be a kid and have fun!  And, I should also add that I am never looking perfect either.  I spend 20 minutes getting ready in the morning - wash face, put on make up, spend a few minutes on my hair and then get dressed (I shower at night, which is why I'm able to get ready that quickly)

If Ty were a hot mess of dirt, snot, matted hair, etc. I'd clean him up for sure, regardless if we're leaving the house, but at the same time, it's really just the "pristine/perfect" that bothers me!

Surprisingly, that's longer than my routine... Mine is pretty much, wash face and brush teeth, get dressed, pull hair into ponytail and head out the door. I typically wake up around 5:45 AM and am out the door by 6 AM.

I don't know that this is a UO, but for me I am not a fan of it.  The whole time I was pregnant I had wished that I would never have a baby with red hair.  Well DS was born with blonde hair that has gradually turned into a strawberry blonde, which I love actually.

With that being said I still am not a fan of babies or children that have the orange red hair.  I honestly would consider coloring my childs hair the moment that it was safe to do so.  Obviously I know that would be way later in life, and I of course would not dislike my child because of their red hair, but I would surely not love it, and I would keep that opinion to myself of course.

So I suppose my UO is that I do not think orange red hair belongs on people.  I should say as well on my dad's side of the family most of his 7 brothers and sisters have orangish red hair.

ETA: When I say Orange Red I mean like Carrot Top color.

Yeah well my cute little redheaded son is not a fan of you either!

yeah. Me too. I hate it when I see kids looking all un kept. We maintain ourselves so why not our kids?

I think there is a balance between the two.  I would give the side eye if I saw a little kid in pristine shirts and pressed pants with his hair all in one place perfectly combed and untouched.

I'd also give the side eye to a little kid with knots/rats in their hair and crap all over their face.

At the same time... I hate that about myself and try not to judge because they could have just been at the park having a ball and then the mom had to stop at the store to get something.  You never know what is going on with someone else...

I don't understand the point of baby wearing at this age.  I understand when babies are really little, but now that they are mobile I just don't get it???  I saw a "baby" at church on Sunday in one and the kid is huge (even though he's maybe a month or so older than my LO) and it just looked really awkward; his legs were just dangling almost to the moms' knees.

Really?  I see a lot reasons to still babywear.  It allows me to get things done around the house when she is fussy.  When I try to do things or run errands while just holding her, it is uncomfortable for both of us and she is really squirmy.  In the carrier, we are both more comfortable and she doesn't squirm.  We wear her to go on hikes--I have no idea how you would do that otherwise.  Plus, I just like the connection we have when I wear her.  Mostly when we go on long walks I put her in the stroller, but sometimes I like to wear her--I can talk to her more easily, point things out, kiss her as we walk along....Not to mention it is the only way she'll fall asleep if we are out and about.  She has never fallen asleep in her stoller.

I'm betting that kid's parents knew he'd be better behaved in church while being worn.  With all that being said, though, if his legs really were "dangling" then they should invest in a quality, ergonomic carrier. Wink

yeah. A stroller in big crowds or rough ground is no fun. Plus DD does not like being in the front of the grocery cart and will cry or try to climb out. I would have a lot of trouble grocery shopping.

I agree.  A will sit in the grocery cart but prefers to be carried.  She's happy in the stroller too but there are lots of times when wearing her is better and easier.  I don't plan on bringing a stroller on my plane trip overseas (we're renting one over there) and will be wearing her the whole time because I will feel much safer at the airports knowing she's right on me, that she can nurse quickly and that she *hopefully* can sleep while I walk up and down the aisle of the plane.

Balance - that's what I'm all about!  And about me - I like the messy bun look and wish I could do it to my hair but alas it's baby fine so I've never been able to accomplish it on my own!

But, at the same time - like you said - I try not to judge because you never know what's going on.  However, I'm more prone to side-eye a perfect looking kid (the parents, not the kid obviously), just because I want to be like "run free little one - play in the dirt!"  Though, again, I try not to judge because for all I know he's perfectly coiffed because they're on their way to do pictures!

So I suppose my UO is that I do not think orange red hair belongs on people.

Since this is not FFFC........I find this rather offensive.  Maybe I'm taking this too seriously and need to lighten up, but I just feel like making a blanket statement about not liking someone's genetic make up that they cannot change is rude.

I realize you are not saying you don't like people with orange red hair, but I'm still surprised you would admit to this.  I really hope some natural red/orange haired individuals speak up here.

    I agree with you Kimbo.

As the wife and mother of redheads, that is a really ignorant opinion, MrsPBNJ.  Genetics are not within an individual's control and if you had said something about some genetic disorder (for example and using your words, "I don't think down's syndrome belongs on people"), you would be getting way flamed.

I think it is ignorant to assume I was referring to someones genetics, I was referring to a hair color, which someone can change, and quite possibly may change when they are old enough to decide to do so, can babies with down syndrom decide to change that when they get older, no they can't so you are just ignorant for saying that.  It's no different than someone saying I prefer taller men, or skinnier women.  Perhaps I should have said "So I suppose my UO is that I do not think orange red hair "is cute" on people".  To even think that my comment was so low as saying "I don't think down's syndrom belongs on people" is very ignorant and much ruder than anything I said.  I suppose I did prove that my comment is a UO.  But again that would be like if someone said "I don't like when babies are pale".  I don't like the hair color.  I did not target a single person yet the comments like "it is ignorant" is not any nicer than what you think I said, and that you think it was super rude.

It is no different than if it's in someones genetics to be tall, skinny, fat, or short.  I was not making a comment based off of this, I was making the comment purely just based on the hair color.  I assure you I was not looking so deeply into it to be referring to someones genetics.  I doubt when people don't like something on someone, they say "I do not like their genetics".  I am not so dense to be blind that genetics is what it is contributed to it.

Oh and this natural red headed individual is speaking that I do not like red hair on people, I did not like it on myself growing up, don't prefer it as an adult now (which is why I dye my hair), so no I am not just hating on all ginger people, because once upon a time I had red hair as well.  I do apologize if I offended anyone.  I am genuinely shocked though because I have said this exact same thing in previous conversations on this board and never received any bad comments about me being ignorant or being a rude person.  Perhaps people are being slightly sensitive or the board is so slow my comment is the highlight of rude nowadays, but I assure everyone it was not intended as ill willed.  And perhaps I should have waited for FFFC, but I don't think that would have stopped anyone.

You and I have spoken on this before, you know as well that I have told you I think you look beautiful with your hair, and that means I think your hair looks great.  It works on some people and some people I just don't think it does.  I would never judge someone or dislike someone strictly off of their hair, but in your case your hair looks fantastic!!!

And to AW my son and his red hair for a second, so that maybe everyone can see that it isn't a blanket judgement of all red heads, it's just some.  Maybe that doesn't sound better but, I'm just trying to make sure all the ladies on here are aware, I am not ignorant, I am not rude, and I don't just make blanket statements, it's difficult to always get a clear point across on the internet.

Your shocked?!?  You basically said you don't like the look of redhdeaded babies, how did you expect the moms of redheaded babies to react??  Also, if I had seen your past comments I would have reacted the same way.  It has nothing to do with the board being slow but everything to do with your comment being rude and offensive!

You're right, it's no different than saying someone's tall or short. and that is genetics. It's not ok to say you don't think it looks good when someone is tall either. Stuff like that transfers to our kids, and you think kids don't have enough trouble with bullying and stuff without parents telling them that kids who look a certain way aren't as cute?

Ginger hater.  lol.  I'm envious of his little red whisps.

LOL, I had a feeling you would say that.  It's funny though, I will say when people come up and compliment him, it is his hair that gets the first compliment, well that and his blue eyes, they get a ton of compliments.  Both of which came from me.  Granted I never got compliments on my hair color growing up, just my eyes.  LOL.

I understand that you went on the defensive here, but you are not helping your case.  Genetics was assumed because hair color is genetics.  Yes, someone can change it if they want to, but that doesn't make your statement any less offensive.

    imageMrsPBNJ0220:
Perhaps I should have said "So I suppose my UO is that I do not think orange red hair "is cute" on people".  To even think that my comment was so low as saying "I don't think down's syndrom belongs on people" is very ignorant and much ruder than anything I said.

This is not any better.  I think it would have been one thing if you said "I don't like my red hair" or even "I don't prefer red hair."  Making a blanket statement about red hair on all people is offensive.  Furthermore, saying one prefers a taller man does not put down short men.  See the difference?  In your one statement, you put all red heads down.

Do you think I would ever allow my child to hear me say anything like that.  Did I not cover that, that I would never let that be heard.  I assume sharing it with adults is a lot different than looking at my child or any child for that matter and saying that.

If it's alright with you all though, I get your point, you have made yourselves clear.  You did not like my comment and trust me that is the last that I would ever make that statement to you all again.  But taking it to extremes in regards to Down's Syndrome, Ingnorance, Bullying, is a little extreme.  I was making a simple statement on something that I don't prefer.

I'll speak up for the Gingers!  MRSPBNJ, you know I've spoken up for this before!!!!!  I'm not offended at all.  People like what they like, but I LOVE my red hair and I think it's my best physical feature.  I get complimented on my hair color all the time and I wished my daughter would have gotten it, as well, but she did not.  Now I hope my son gets it!  =)

Please, please..... let me AW my ginger locks.  Don't be jealous.  lol.

I understand everyone may not feel like I am helping my case, but I also did not think I was on trial here.  I think everyone made there point and also think that everyone can leave it alone now.  I don't think anything I say will make anyone feel any better about what I said.  And as I said before it is sometimes difficult to clearly make a point on the internet.  And as I said also I was not making a blanket statement.  So let me take this opportunity to clear this up.  With the help of Kimbo's comment.

I never liked my red hair growing up and I don't prefer red hair.  That's it, as simple as that.  I suppose my wording sucked in this matter, and I do apologize that I conveyed my message so poorly on my behalf and offended so many of you with red hair, or who have babies with red hair.

That was not my intention, I do still stand firm that some of you were not kind to me either, so you may not have been targeting red hair, or making blanket statements, but you were not very kind to this one person either.

I find it very beneficial to continue wearing D. We are very active parents with hiking, disk golfing and other things and babywearing has just made it easier on us. I don't want to give those things up with having to carry around a stroller if the stroller couldn't go there. I also think they are bulky and I don't personally need one. I never use my. It also allows me to get things done around the house. Babywearing has been the little thing that has just really made my life so much more manageable with having a baby. I don't find anything wrong with not wearing your baby or even using a storller, we just do what works best for us. Even if it doesn't 'look' that great. Plus depending on the carrier you are limited by weight, so maybe the lady from your Church doesn't have the proper carrier to handle a toodler/big baby. I'm planning on wearing D until he doesn't want to be worn, but until then I am going at it in full force! Plus the wraps are so pretty... they are like an accessory for me... like Jewelry or a Coach purse... LOL

I hate it when people say that you shouldn't do something with my girls because they won't remember it. I hear this all the time from friends and family, but my DH is the worst offender. When I tell him about our plans to go to the zoo or aquarium or my plans for their party, that is always what he says. My feeling is that yes, they won't remember it, but they can still have a lot of fun.

Ditto this, I think it is fun for the parents as well as for the baby.  I do not remember my childhood before 13 really and I am sure I had fun.  Honestly I am thankful that I did the things when I was child and that my mom made it a habit of taking tons of pictures because even though I don't remember it, it is so nice looking at the photos of what I have done.

This made me giggle, I LOVE doing little kid things! When DH and I were dating, I'd always say 'I can't wait to have a kid so I won't look weird doing/going _____'. I love kid/Disney movies, making crafts, drawing/coloring.... Not that being childless stopped me from doing that, I just feel people won't judge as much if she's with me :D

LOL, so true.  I know before DS I loved coloring, I still do honestly.  Just now people will likely not say "Are you coloring?" with a funny look on their face, it would seem normal ;-)

I can't wait until they start coloring so I can color too! I may finger paint with them from time to time though...
