Re: anyone taking fish oil supplements?

  • No I do eat Omega3 rich foods often though.

  • Everyday...I use the Nature Made brand.
  • like what? I am SICK of canned salmon!

  • I've been taken Expecta since week 5.
  • I'm taking the supplements. They're not bad. (I forget which brand it is though.)
  • My PNVs contain DHA (the Omega-3 in question here).  A lot of women take Expecta, which is a DHA supplement.  There are also some brands of yogurt that have DHA... YoMommy is one.  I think Breyers makes one too.
  • Walnuts, flaxseeds (in the blender with yogurt and fresh fruit!), beans, fish, olive oil and winter squash are just a few.

On a side note: Nature Made is one of the poorest quality products on the retail shelves today. Expecta is a good quality brand and you can know you are getting everything it says on the bottle.

  • Why do you say Nature Made is one of the poorest quality? ?I did tons of research and found it to be one of the best out there....
  • I am taking the Duet DHA PNV and so it comes with the fish oil capsule...

  • my prenatals have both the big vitamin & a smaller omega-3 pill.  See if you can get an RX from your Dr. so it's cheaper
  • I have just read many comparisons on brands of suppliments out there (2 parents in the medical field so they get/got lost of info in journals, studies etc...) For many years my Mom worked in holisitc meds and still does a ton of nutritional counseling with her paritens (everything from Cancer and Lyme to Hyperemesis patients)

Nature Made always rated fairly low, something about how it is made. Target brand rates pretty high though.

Also know that a compressed pill has to be digested before it can be absorbed. A gel cap with powder simply disolves and gets absorbed directly w/o digestion aiding in how much of the actual suppliment is absorbed.

  • I take Spectrum Naturals fish oil capsules from small white fish. It is tested to be lead/mercury/pcb free. 2 per day with my target PNV.
