Hi-
I am not Insulin Resistant so I stopped my Met last week at 12 weeks. I truly feel that I conceived due to that and a low carb diet.
My question is...did you continue or introduce a low carb diet after stopping the Metformin? My dr says its not necessary, but I do read a lot about PCOS women who m/c in 2nd tri and of course I am being very paranoid.
What have you done while pregnant to ensure PCOS is kept in check and baby is healthy? TIA!
Re: Please come in PCOS ladies
I haven't continued my "on Metformin" diet since stopping the Met. I did ask my OB if I'll be higher risk for GD because of the PCOS and the fact that I was on Met for a while -- she said there shouldn't be a significant risk (I'm not IR, either). I'm just trying to eat as healthy as possible, and resist sugar cravings as often as possible.
FWIW, I, too, believe Metformin is a big part of the reason I'm currently pregnant, but I do NOT believe staying on it, or a low carb diet, will prevent miscarriage in the second trimester.
Me = lean PCOS;DH = poor morphology (3%)
3 IUI/TI cycles = BFN
IVF #1 with ICSI: antagonist protocol = BFFN
IVF #2 with ICSI : Lupron downregulation = BFFN...FML
IVF #3 with ICSI and AH (Antagonist) = IT'S A BOY!!!!
This!!!! I'm not continuing on the metformin diet, and my RE agreed - mostly because in my first trimester carbs was really all I could eat. everything else came right back up! I try and eat healthy balanced meals, but I"m not as obsesses as I was when I was trying.
Ditto pp. When I was on Metformin, the DR didn't have me on a special diet of any kind (I was on extended release, so it wasn't as hard on my stomach).
I don't find that I've changed my eating habits that much since I've been pregnant. I do try to squeeze in more vegetables where I can.
The MFM took me off Met at 13 weeks. I asked about staying on the whole time since I developed GD with my last pregnancy, but he said no, the met is twice as concentrated in the baby as it is in mom.
I follow the GD diet, which is eating every 2 hours and watching carbs. 30 carb breakfast, 15 carb snack, 45 carb lunch, 15 carb snack, 45 carb dinner, 15 carb snack. When I first started it I wasn't eating all the carbs, I thought that was too many, but the nutritionist stressed that it's necessary to eat those amounts because it's needed for fuel. I don't know if that really answers your question or not, but eating too few carbs can also be unhealthy. You can check to see if your OB has a nutritionist you can speak with, most do.
