Vaccination survey

I am curious...

a) Do you get your kid(s) vaccinated?

b) Do they attend daycare/public school or do you plan for them to in the future?

  • 1) Yes I have vaccinated.

    After living in Europe and seeing what the anti-vaccers have done to their young adult children...and the repercussions of the mini-breakouts of the measles, whooping cough (breakout here in my agrigarian part of Germany) and Polio (how effing scary)...I would never NOT vaccinate my child(ren).

    NEW measle diagnosos have doubled in France in just 12 months.

    2) My daughter is in the public Pre-school program on base and will either go public or private/prochial school depending on where we are living at the time.

    @OP yes and yes

    @llumine There was an outbreak of measles in a private school nearby.  The school is attended primarily by European children whose parents work in the city.  All the non-vaccinated children were infected.

  • a) Yes, or will at her upcoming appointment (she's only 7 weeks old). Did you know whooping cough is now epidemic in parts of Washington State? 10 kids died in California of Whooping Cough in 2010. I will be getting all her vaccinations including Gardasil. I might have skipped chicken pox, but it turns out that DH never got it as a child, and it would be very bad for him to get it now.

    b) Baby is in a co-op daycare with 5 other kids. We'll start her out in public schools and see how they are around here.

  • I am from Europe. I had measles, scarlet fever, chicken pox...etc, just like all the other kids I grew up with. They are childhood diseases we went through, so what. I never thought it was a tragedy, as most people where i am from think the same way I do. We do things our way and maybe we don't agree with your ways.

    There is no vaccine against scarlet fever.  It is similar to a strep infection.  People can be treated with antibiotics.  Prior to treatment it was a major cause of death.

    ETA:  In underdeveloped nations the fatality of rate of measles is 28%.  The death rate in immunocompromised people is 30%. Your choice is not  a tragedy to you, but it can be to others.

    Thats great that it was never an issue for you. But vaccinations don't just protect the person who gets them. Chicken pox may be mild when children get it, but when adults get it it can be debilitating as it turns into Shingles, and if a pregnant woman gets it it can kill her fetus. Herd immunity is very important and every unvaccinated person pokes a hole in that wall.

    Glad that you made it through unscathed.   Unfortunately, not every child does, hence the need for vaccinations.    Not to mention the value they have towards protecting other who are immunocompromised or who can not get vaccinations.    By the way, who is this "we"?   Is that every one in Europe?    I'm pretty sure there are vaccines in Europe, as well.
