I am from Europe. I had measles, scarlet fever, chicken pox...etc, just like all the other kids I grew up with. They are childhood diseases we went through, so what. I never thought it was a tragedy, as most people where i am from think the same way I do. We do things our way and maybe we don't agree with your ways.
first of all, your (the general YOU, you seem to be speaking for) socialized health care system DOES provide for and encourages the SAME vaccinations on pretty much the same schedule as the US.
The jump in the french measles was not caused by this country NOT pushing/PAYING FOR the measles vaccinations, but by the "crunchie / intellectual" set, ie white middle to upper class, who in the early 1980s did not trust the professionals and th vaccinations.
And 20 years later, it wasn't the non immuniazed immigrants who we're coming down with the measles and getting VERY IILL and dying, but the very same young adult children whose parents were too smart to protect their children.
So bully for you and your parents for not caring about your health and safety, but I am not going to possibly subject my daughter to High fevers, rashes, conjunctivitis, cough, light sensitivity, encephalitis, pneumonia, or bronchitis (measles), Fever, uncontrollable coughing that can lead to vomiting, which could lead to loss of consciousness, disabilities dispute to the loss of oxegyn to the brain, etc (whooping cough), or paralysis (polio).
My understanding is that parenting is supposed to be about PROTECTING your children to the best of your ability:
a) given the rise in the outbreaks in these very serious diseases and the greater odds of coming in contact with someone affected (even in the pristine industrial cultural centers of the world like Paris, Berlin and London, not to mention NYC) vs the odds of my child getting autism from the vaccine to prevent this...I am going with prevention. Not to mention, there hasn't been ANY reliable scientific proof from ANY country that there is a correlation or causation between the vaccinations and autism. That is one effing large conspiracy.
your postulation that since I and most of my friends survived in the past we don't have to worry now is pretty idiotic. Following that train, its ok to let my kid ride her bike without a helmet (illegal in Germany) becuase I did and survived...or not be in a car seat/booster (illegal in all of Europe) etc..

Completely vaccinated, mostly according to the peds chart. On one set of vacc's I opted to spread them out a little because there was a lot, but they have been completed.
