opinions on nt scans
we are debating on having a nt scan done. with ds it wasnt even preseented to us. so this time we now have to decide to have one or not.
i have already had several u/s because of some early issues so that isnt a reason i would have one just to have the u/s.
what are you ladies opinions on them

We did beacuse this is our first... and i wanted to get a long ultrasound... the ultrasound was about 10 mins and i got to hear the heartbeat for the first time... also got a early peak at the "goods". The tech told us she wasnt 100% and its still early but it looked like we had a little girl
but of coarse we arent buying anything until about 20 weeks.
We got about 8 pictures and at our reg. ob visits we only get 1... its was def. worth it in my opinion.
We did it because insurance covered it. We weren't positive what we'd choose to do if it showed something abnormal but we wanted to know so we could make an informed decision, either way.

We opted not to get an N/T scan. We also decided against the Quad screening.
But, here is what you should know. The N/T screen is not diagnostic. It also does not give you false positives. It tells you the likelihood that your baby has an issue. If the N/T shows that your baby is at an elevated risk for an issue, you have to wait to do a CVS or an Amnio to get a more accurate result. Keep in mind, the CVS has a 93% accuracy rate and an amnio has a 98% accuracy rate.
But, you do get an extra u/s and get to see the baby. For some, that is reason enough to get it. Also, some docs will make a gender prediction, but they are not considered accurate at 12 weeks, but it can be fun.
We decided not to because we just don't agree with unecessary medical tests. However, we wound up having to get am amnio anyway, so our plan didn't work out.

I had the NT done. I didn't realize what it actually was. When I signed up for it I was 6w and had only known for about 2 weeks that I was pregnant and hadn't read any of the books on what everything is. So I said yes. It wouldn't matter what the outcome actually was and honestly it caused me unneeded stress because I kept worrying that they may find something when it wouldn't matter to me if they did or did not.
On the plus side I got to see the baby move and hear the heartbeat which was just amazing! So worth it. And everything was just fine. Everything looked normal and blood work came back great!
Would I do it again? I'm not sure. If I could just do the u/s without looking into anything than yes. If not...then I would say no...
thanks ladies for your opinions. i am just really unsure on this and so is dh. if something showed questionable i dont know if or what we would do.
as i said i have already had several u/s already and will have another before then so that really isnt a motovating factor for me.
hmm... need to think on this more.
It's a very personal decision - no right or wrong decision.
We did with our DD and will with this pregnancy. It wouldn't change our mind about continuing with the pregnancy, but if by chance something was wrong, I'd want as many months as I could to research and prepare (i.e., best doctors, best hospitals, support groups, etc.). I'm a planner - so finding out in the delivery room that there is a medical issue would be too overwhelming for me.
