Pregnant after IF

Trouble sleeping early in pg?

Ever since my BFP, I have been having trouble sleeping at night.  I fall asleep quickly, but then I'll wake up 3-4 hrs later, and unable to fall back asleep for a good 1-2 hours!  This is happening almost every night and I can barely function (not to mention the worrying thoughts that go thru my head in the middle of the night)!  Is it just me or do you have similar symptoms?  And please tell me it will get better...

Before the pg, I sleep very well and altho I'd wake up in the middle of the night, I never have trouble falling back to sleep immediately.

Re: Trouble sleeping early in pg?

  • I had the same issue.  I'd stay up til midnight, wake up at 2, 4 and then be up for work at 6am.  I think it had to do a lot with anxiety for me too.

Now, I can't sleep enough.  I go to bed at 9 pm and can barely get up in the morning!  I'd say it changed around 8 weeks for me.

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

  • I'm having a lot of trouble falling asleep, but that is because I was either A)super excited that I finally got a BFP or B)worried about my next beta results.

Since it doesn't seem to matter if I nap or not, I'm grabbing naps and hoping that once I'm through my betas I'll be able to relax just a tiny bit and the issue will resolve itself.

  • I was the same way early on. I think it was part excitement/nerves and part hormones. Then I was exhausted all the time and sleeping well. Now I wake up several times a night to turn over, once at 4am to pee and then back to sleep until 7:30am. Pre-pregnancy, I would sleep a solid 8 hours every night!

  • Sorry to tell you, but I've had insomnia since early in 1st tri and it hasn't gotten any better.

My nights go one of two ways ---

    (1) I wake up every 90mins-2 hours, get up and pee, fall back asleep quickly, and repeat several more times until it's time to get up.  I've actually gotten used to this and usually feel okay the next day.  Or,

(2), I sleep for 3-4 hours straight and when I wake up my brain goes into overdrive and I am awake for the next 2-3 hours.  If I'm lucky, I fall back asleep for another hour or so before I have to get up.  This is the worst pattern because I end up exhausted all day.

I seriously think I might actually sleep better after the baby is here!

  • I am the same way.  I havent been able to sleep in a week.  Wake up 2-3 times a night and stay awake for an hour or so.

I saw Dr Oz the other day and he said you can drink unsweetened tart cherry juice 30min to an hour before bed and that should help because it has melatonin in it (natural).  But Im not a dr. so I would check with them first!

  • This is me!

It's getting to the point where I think something's wrong if I do sleep through the night.

I go to bed around 10:30/11 and then wake up at 4am.  I'll stay up from 4-6, and then sleep for an extra hour.  Once I wake up at 4, my mind just starts racing.  It's like I realize that I'm pregnant every morning and think "I can't believe I'm pregnant," and it just keeps me up.

  • Thanks for all your replies - I guess I'm kind of relieved that I'm not alone in this; but certainly not encouraging to know that it may not get better!  Surprise

Last night I woke up right on time - 4:01am - forced myself back to sleep and just tossed and turned for maybe 1/2 hour and finally did fall back asleep.  That was definitely a better night than others!  I used to be such a good sleeper that it's hard to get used to this.
