Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Amount of formula and solids per day for a 6 mo. old?

We started feeding our son solids about a month and a half ago.  He's just about 6 mos old. He loves eating and is doing great!  Lately his appetite for both formula and solids has increased.  Pretty sure it's because of all of his new moving around skills.

At the end of the day here is what he averages in solids/formula. Spread throughout the day.

**Between 29-31 oz of formula **6 teaspoons of rice cereal **2-3 teaspoons of pears or peaches mixed in the cereal (total, two different times)  **1 small little jar of green beans or peas

Does this sound about right?  Just wondering what others are doing.  He's a boy, and over 20lbs (haven't weighed him in a month).

  • This sounds about right to me...my son was 17.6 lbs at his checkup and he eats 4 8oz bottles a day, with solids 2 of those times. AM solids are a lil cereal and 1/2 jar of fruit and PM solids are 1/2 jar of veggies. You sound right on target!!

  • Dang.. my kid is a piggy then!

She is just over 6 months, and has been on solids since 4 months.

    She eats 6 - 5oz bottles a day.
1/3 cup cereal with 1/3 cup water for breakfast.
a jar of stage 2 fruit for lunch.

and a jar of stage 3 veggies for dinner.

  • We just went for our 6 month appointment, wow a month ago- time flies, and were told he we need to feed three meals of solids a day with two bottle snacks in between and he shouldn't need to eat at night.. We do the daytime stuff how she recommended with a bottle thrown in here or there when the hungry cry comes out which isn't to often anymore. Nighttime is another story. I am pretty sure he eats out of habit so we have started doing 4 oz bottles twice a night for a week, which he drinks most of but not all and falls right back to sleep.Tomorrow night we are starting 2 oz bottles for a week, if he is satisfied with that then the following week he is not getting any.

    His solid schedule is

1 gerber yogurt and 1/2 container of fruit for breakfast

1 container of veggies (smaller gerber size) and 1 container of the larger size fruit

1 container of veggies (large one) and smaller container of fruit for dinner. If I am having chicken or turkey with my meal I give him small bites of that in between his bites of veggies.
