Searched but couldn't really find an answer!

Im sorry if there's a post like this, but I searched and couldn't really find one that fit mine. I'm a FTM, almost 20 wks and for the past 3 days, I've been having menstrual like cramps (mainly on right side, but has been on both), right above pubic area. The cramps have been on and off throughout the day and night with lower back pain. I take Tylenol and it does ease off, but in your OPINIONS, is this RLP?? I understand no one here is a dr, just wanting to see if anybody has similar experiences. Also, there has been no bleeding/spotting!! Thanks in advance y'all!!

Yes, it definitely could be. I get that from time to time. No need to worry unless the pain becomes unbearable.

ETA: It could also be the actual uterus stretching.

  • @ Igsdesigner thank you! It's not unbearable but it does hurt like a period!
  • @ Starbuck128 thx! I did google RLP and it didn't sound like it to me either, but I'm just starting to "pop/show" so it could be stretching from baby growing!
  • I've been curled in a ball in my bed all day. I've had cramps off and on throughout this pregnancy, some days worse than others. Today has probably been the worst so far. Also have back pain. Mine is mostly on the right side too. I just took a Tylenol that eased off the pain a tad bit. I have my anatomy scan Monday so I'm going to mention it to my doctor then. Were in the same boat :(

  • I had some mild cramping in my first pregnancy (maybe around 30 weeks).  When I told my doctor about it at my appointment (my appointment was the day after the cramping), she seemed annoyed that I didn't call right away.  She ended up doing an internal and said my cervix was seemed softer than it should be.  They did some kind of test to see if I was close to going into labor.  I wasn't.  Baby came via induction at 41 weeks.

Long story short; maybe you should call?

  • @nicunursetomommy‌ I'm sorry to hear that. I've been using a hearing pad on and off and it does seem to help ease the pain some. Plz let me know what ur dr thinks it may be on Monday!!
  • RLP is normally short and sharp. Cramps are normal too though. I would increase your water intake. Try to drink 80-100 oz between today and tomorrow and see if that helps. Usually my "growing" cramps aren't enough to take Tylenol for. If you call your doctor they are going to tell you to drink more water and see what happens. I would do that first before calling them and if you are still having cramps on Monday call your OB.
  • @lala5507‌ I think I will call Monday! Thank you! @IFinTN‌, it could def be dehydration. I don't drink NEARLY as much water as I should. I've been having some dizziness also so maybe that's it! Hopefully!
  • Def going to try water @DawnLilly‌ and @IFinTN‌!! Thank y'all!!
  • Water is always the best first option for a lot of pregnancy issue!  Can't hurt to give a couple tall glasses of water a try and see what happens.

  • Doesn't sound like RLP to me either. For me, contractions feel like period cramps, and can definitely be brought on by dehydration. If your urine isn't pale yellow, drink up! Give it a half hour after you drink a bunch and see how you feel.

Also, it never hurts to call your OB's advice or after hours line. Better to be safe.

  • @supersarah77‌ urine is def not pale yellow!! So I'm guessing I better drink up!! @lala5507‌ hateee water, but I guess it's looking like my only option! Lol!!
  • Yes, yes!! Stay hydrated!! I've found this makes a huge difference. And my dr. said to go by the color of your urine to determine how hydrated you are.

  • @twodreamers‌ my urine is kind of dark so I feel not enough water may be my problem!! @Smilz4782‌ I'm glad to see I'm not the only one w cramps. They come and go but I guess being a FTM, everything worries me!!

Dehydration will cause contractions, which can feel like menstrual cramps. I learned this with my stomach virus. Drink more water!! See if that helps.
    This.

I felt like this yesterday to the point where I actually ran to the bathroom expecting to find blood.  I then realized I'd barely had any water all day.  After chugging a few large glasses, the cramps subsided.

  • RLP to me feels like sharp, fading pains (like a Charlie Horse, kind of) and I get the RLP rolling over in bed, mainly. It sounds like you've concluded that rehydrating will help...I agree! Let us know.
  • Yes, hydration is key!

I have to pipe in here with my fibroid!  :::collective groan noted:::

Hopefully its a hydration issue and you will feel better soon!  My nagging period-like (mostly on the right) cramping was a fibroid (the doc quickly told me it didn't sound like RLP).  They sent me for a u/s when the ob couldn't figure it out and found a big ol' fibroid.  Its completely benign and shouldn't cause any issues with the baby (they will monitor more frequently just in case) but daaaaamn did those cramps get old fast.  They hurt like hell and kept me up all night.  Tylenol helped a little.  Warm baths, heating pads, and having DH read to me for distraction helped some.  Fortunately the pain went away about a week later.  The 'broid is still there, but for whatever reason the pain went away.

  • @zbornak123‌ lawd I hope it's not that!!! But yessss these cramps are getting real old real fast!!! I'll take Tylenol and they go away for hours and sometimes don't come back that day but will return the next day! I'm hoping and praying it's just a water issue tho! I had a papsmear done at my 11wk appt. Would it have showed a fibroid then?? How often did u get the cramping?

it was pretty much all day.  they gave me tylenol with codeine, and they would be back as soon as it wore off.  i think only a u/s would show it.  i don't think they are all that common - but since it happened to me I of course think everyone has one.  cramping was primarily on the right but at times felt more central.  i didn't have any low back pain though.  I def felt like menstrual cramps.  They kept me from sleeping which was the biggest red flag that something wasn't right.  Good luck!  Like I said, odds are thats not whats going on with you, but I hope you get some relief!

try a heating pad - the ob assured me it was ok.  i was worried it might make my abd and thus the baby too hot.  Just use it like 15 minutes on 15 minutes off.

  • @zbornak123‌, I do use a heating pad and it does help. The cramping is mainly on the right side but sometimes all the way across. I've had 2 u/s done and they haven't showed anything abnormal so I'm hoping water will do the trick!! And thank you again!!

I am not a water fan either.  People always think I'm weird.  I drink more water if it's really cold with ice.
