I'm pretty sure my hospital will let you go 2 weeks over if you want to. My friend did. They scheduled her induction for exactly 2 weeks after her due date. I haven't asked my docs what they do, I should do that at my appointment on Wednesday!
Two weeks ago at my appointment doctor said she will not let me go even a day past my due date. They say he is going to be too big and don't want him to get so big that I can't deliver him. So if he doesn't come before my due date (next Tuesday) I will probably be induced next week but will have to talk more on Friday at my appointment.
I asked last week, she'll let me go to 41 weeks before they'll induce me on the day I'm 41 weeks. I didn't ask if it were optional or not, I want this little bugger out already!!

She will only allow me to go over one week and I have mixed feelings about it. Obviously, I want to do what's best for my baby, but my OB is going off my LMP and I think I ovulated later than she thinks due to my long cycles. I would prefer to go on my own since I'm hoping for a natural birth and have a fear that being induced will lead to a c/s.
My doctor won't even start talking induction until 41 weeks. She won't let anyone go over 42 weeks though. Extra monitoring starts at 40 weeks until delivery. Her stance is that baby is still in there for a reason usually, it is rare that a baby overstays his/her welcome. The mother/doctor usually just want them out sooner.
My doc will wait until I reach 41 weeks before we even talk about induction. Although he said that at my 41 week appt they'll moniter baby and see how she's doing, if she seems like she's in distress or that for any reason my womb is not a safe environment they'd induce me on that day... otherwise he set up the induction for the following week.
My doctor will let me schedule an induction anytime after 40 weeks. However, after a failed induction at 41 weeks last time and having to be induced again at 42 weeks (successfully that time), I am in no rush. I will not schedule before 42 weeks.
Just an FYI they can't force you to be induced at 1 week post,
This. Also just as an FYI, the ACOG does not reccommend induction prior to 42 weeks so if you want to wait you can ask your doctor why they feel differently.
2 weeks. With my first LO, I had an appointment scheduled at 41 weeks, 6 days and doc told me to be prepared to discuss induction. I delivered the morning of that day and jokingly told the doctor to let the girls in the office know I wasn't going to make my afternoon appointment.
After some discussion on my thoughts, my OB has already scheduled my induction for four days after my due date. I don't know exactly how long he would "let" me go, but he said I had the option of inducing if I want.

And while we're talking inductions...
If your doctor wants to induce you even earlier (or you are thinking of trying old wives tales to bring about labor earlier), check out this article from the March of Dimes. They have a whole campaign titled Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait in regards to waiting until at least 39 weeks to induce during healthy pregnancies.
The official answer is one week/41 weeks, but I'm not sure how strict that is. I would imagine they can do non stress tests, etc. to see if there is a real need to induce, but I'm not sure.
I should ask this Friday! Thanks for the reminder-

My doctors have listed their reasons for inducing as the rate of stillbirth increases after 40 weeks, and the placenta begins to degrade at 40 weeks and could be non-functional at 42 weeks.
My MW also told me a week which I thought was odd as I'd always thought 2 weeks was the standard. She didn't give me a specific date though, I expect if I go overdue we'll schedule it.

Technically.. 2 weeks at my Dr's but I know he doesn't want me to wait much longer because of size issues... he would have been quite happy if I had popped anytime after 36 weeks ...
The length of the average first pregnancy is 41 weeks 1 day and my Dr said once it gets to 42 weeks we can think about induction but he wouldn't like me to go past 3 weeks although it's still my choice love my DR btw

Actually it doesn't start to increase tell 41 weeks and typically your ob/mw will send you in for a non stress test at 40 weeks and every week after. Post term is not tell 42 weeks.
the first apt where I am due/overdue the doc will give me the option to induce. He pushes for induction a week overdue. I will be two days before my due date at one of my apt I am sure I would be given the option to schedule or wait until next apt to schedule.

My OB said the same. She said that if he is not here by my 40w appointment, we will pick a date during the following week to induce.

My OB will let me go until 42 weeks.

My dr allows you to go one week past your due date. So I know she'll be here at the latest by Mar 18.
