DS has said mama, dada, hi, and bye bye. He's also said ball but only if I say it to him first. He really doesn't say much else. I am trying to work with him on simple words like ball, cup, etc when he has these things, but just curious what your LOs are saying...if anything?

Re: How many words does your 14 month old DS say?
My 14 month old doesn't say much un-prompted...mama, dada, and hot. He will mostly imitate when I say things, "ish" for fish and "at" for cat, for example.
I really have no idea what's "normal" or expected at this age, but my pedi said she wanted him to have 6 un-prompted words by 15 months...
1) All kids are different.
2) He is saying some words, so that is good.
3) Just keep talking to him and reading to him. He'll pick it up in his own time.
FTR, my 14 month old says mama, dada, dog, cat, car, bye, hi, no, and maybe a few others. He is also proficient in toddler-ese (whining and babbling).
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
About the same as your LO. Mama, Dada, Key (kitty), bath, ball
He says mama, dada, dog, bye, outside, night night, store, all done, get down. Obviously the last two sound more like "ah dah" and "ga dah" but he says them correctly in context when he's finished eating and wants to get out of his high chair, lol.
He also knows Zumba...he says "ba ba" and dances. haha
My DS has quite a few words- tick tock, mama, dada, bye-bye, kitty, uh-oh, yucky, no, night night, all done. But I think he's a more verbal kid and he only started walking a little over a week ago. My niece on the other hand, who is a month older than DS started walking at 10 months and still only says a couple words. Kids are just different and develop quicker/slower in different areas.
