Also posted on Nov 2011 but I thought I'd post her since people have older LO's and have been dealing with this longer so may have better advice ![]()
1. How do you get them to take it? I gave it to her once just in her
mouth and she spit a lot of it out so I have been mixing it in her
bottle but that means she has to be hungry to take it so if anyone has
any other tricks I'd love to know.
2. DD is 11lbs 14.5oz so should I give her the amount for 11lbs or 12 lbs since she is almost 12lbs. I have been giving her the amount for 11lbs but I am wondering if she needs more? I tried calling the pedi but they seem unaware of the new tylenol dosing because they just kept telling me to give her .5ml which is the amount for the old concentrated infant drops.
ETA: BTW I am giving it to her because she had her shots yesterday and has been running a fever ever since.
Re: XP: Two Tylenol Questions
Just squirt a little at a time in her cheek pouch-between her gums and her cheek-rather than in the middle.
According to Dr. Sears in the Baby Book you should give 80 mg or 1/2 tsp or 2.5 ml of the children's liquid (which I am 99.9% sure is the new concentration) for an 11-16 pound LO. Double check the number of mg per dose on the bottle.
HTH!
Definitely put it in her cheeks. A nurse told me once to blow gently at his nose/mouth and it is a reaction for them to swallow. You can also do that on a plane to get their ears to pop.
I have a dosing chart somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
Twin boys born too early at 17w4d and 18w2d in February 2010
Transabdominal cerclage placed September 2010
DS born at 35w1d in February 2011
Twin girls born at exactly 36w in February 2013
Thanks ladies for the advice.
So I tried putting a little in her cheeks and blowing and she did swallow it and just when I was like Yay! Success! she gagged and threw up so I guess I'll stick to the lacing her bottle method for now LOL
I looked up Dr. Sears dosing chart and decided to go with that since I had been giving her the amount for 8-11lbs on the dosage chart on babycenter and her fever had just been getting higher which made me wonder if I wasn't giving enough since she is really almost 12lbs which would be the 80mg on their chart.
They make medicine dispensers that look like tiny bottles with a nipple on the end. (Lord I hope that made sense!) You might want to invest in one of those for the future. You can mix the Tylenol with a small amount of milk.
Thanks that sounds great. I will look into them!
