Daycare is obsessed with diaper cream...

It is obnoxious.  I've told them "don't put cream on him unless he is red".  They put it on every diaper change.  It is bizarre.  The cream we use is freaking expensive because we CD.  I can't figure out how to break them of this...

  • At least they're doing it. I know some DCs where they never do no matter how many requests.

I would confront them and tell them your concern. That's really not right for them to do that.

  • I had the same problem when ds was in diapers.  We used cds too and paid a lot for great creme. I just stopped sending it and truthfully he never had any diaper rash/irritation anyway so I realized it was wasteful.

  • I'd stop sending it unless he's red.

This.  I have a feeling they've had kids before that get red really, really easy and got "in trouble" w/ parents for NOT putting cream on enough.  So, now they are going to the opposite extreme.

This is what I was going to say. They are probably just trying to make sure they are doing the right thing.

  • Our DC does the same thing, but we told them to not use any because of the cloth diapers. We did eventually send in a special CD cream because she was red, but if you don't give it to them they can't use it. You're right though--that stuff is expensive!

We've given up on the CDs though, and they use diaper cream at every diaper change now that she's in disposables.

  • Same here!  I just started sending a cream that is to prevent diaper cream although I don't think it is much different than actual diaper cream.  I asked them to please only put it on when she is red but I still think they overuse it.  I would try either stop sending it in or use something less expensive that is more preventative.

  • Why don't you give them a tub of aquaphor instead? We use that with almost every diaper change (then switch to diaper cream if he's red).

We get the generic brand from Target or a drugstore. It's about $10 and lasted us almost a whole year!

  • I would send vasoline if that is OK for use with CDs... I would keep the cream and if he is read you can put it on him when he is home and you change him there... I bet it is just habit that they put cream on babies at every diaper change.  But I would be disapointed if my daycare didn't listen to my specific instructions...
