Trying to think of how I would feel with a birthday then..it would kind of suck I think. Just debating skipping next cycle if this one is a wash again. • You know, before we started TTC, we thought about this and how we didn't want to have kids with birthdays around Christmas because there is so much going on and we didn't want their birthday to get "lost" around Christmas time.

Now that we have been trying, we will take a baby at any time!  And honestly, I'd be OK with having birthdays around the holidays since our whole family will be around. It might actually, gasp, be convenient for us. Wink

  • Nope.  I had originally thought about trying to plan a pregnancy around work, but that idea went out the window when I realized how long it can take to get pregnant.  I just started cycle 7 (and many people here have been trying longer than that), I think I will take a baby any month of the year.

Like others said, no I wouldn't avoid a holiday baby.

I guess there are a few ways of looking at this. Yes, you could think it would be hectic/fill in the blank with whatever negative emotion to have a birthday (or give birth) around the holidays. Certainly some people probably believe that.

The other way to think of it is that a holiday baby would be a blessing. I can't imagine avoiding a baby in a certain month.

  • I will be the odd one out.  Yes, I will avoid for the cycle that would give us a near Christmas baby.  DS was born Dec. 18th, and we have a nephew that is Dec. 15th.

We will be infinitely grateful for a baby whenever it happens, but we will TTA that cycle if it comes to that.

  • No. We just want a baby.

Was starting to feel like the only one thinking like this! Like I said, of course I want a baby too. I am not even so much worried about the giving birth around the holidays part. That's a one-time thing. I feel more like it would be no fun for the child. Every year you share your birthday with Christmas? I think birthdays are one of the things that make each of us feel special & it would stink for it to be overshadowed by the holidays especially since people are so crazy busy then. DH agrees with most of the above. Of course the child would be happy that they were born, but I bet they'd be even happier if it were any other month & people were actually free to celebrate with them :)

Ok I am not trying to be snarky, but I side eye people that try or claim to plan a pregnancy around events.  A girl I work with claims to have planned her pregnancy around work, knowing that she only had a 3 month window to get pregnant.  I guess it worked for her, but I think that she just got lucky.  If I tried to plan my pregnancy around work and holidays, I would probably never get pregnant.

Also I have a December birthday and yeah it sucks a little to have a birthday a few weeks before Christmas, but it didn't ruin my life.

  • We had tossed the idea around briefly because of worry about the kid's birthday getting "pushed aside" by the holidays. I'm actually a huge holiday lover and just love the whole time from Halloween to New Year so I might really enjoy having a baby around this time.

Would it be a challenge to have a baby around the holidays? Sure. But it'll be a challenge at any time of year. Plus, you could always celebrate a half birthday if it was too hectic around the holidays.

  • Ah lovey. It's the most wonderful time of the year, when people stress over babies that don't exist yet having birthdays too close to Christmas.

  • My birthday is Jan 3 ... and frankly it sucked as a kid to have it right after Christmas/New Year, but now it's kind of cool because I'm guaranteed to see family/friends close to my birthday which makes it easier to get everyone together for dinner or something. And New Years Eve/Birthday Parties are super fun!

We are officially TTC starting in March so...if we get pregnant on the first try that's a Christmas baby. If that happens I'll always make sure to make birthdays extra special. I know sometimes my mom let me celebrate mine late so my friends could come (Jan 3 was hard because we were usually still on Christmas break and people were travelling).

I will be the odd one out.  Yes, I will avoid for the cycle that would give us a near Christmas baby.  DS was born Dec. 18th, and we have a nephew that is Dec. 15th.

We will be infinitely grateful for a baby whenever it happens, but we will TTA that cycle if it comes to that.

I suppose I might feel different if we already had one child with a December birthday. For those of us trying for #1, I think we're content to take what we can get! Smile

  • Nope, my IVF schedule puts me firmly into holiday season, and I couldn't care less.

    TTC since 2010

lots of IUIs and 1 IVF all BFNs

Was starting to feel like the only one thinking like this! Like I said, of course I want a baby too. I am not even so much worried about the giving birth around the holidays part. That's a one-time thing. I feel more like it would be no fun for the child. Every year you share your birthday with Christmas? I think birthdays are one of the things that make each of us feel special & it would stink for it to be overshadowed by the holidays especially since people are so crazy busy then. DH agrees with most of the above. Of course the child would be happy that they were born, but I bet they'd be even happier if it were any other month & people were actually free to celebrate with them :)

There are worse things in life.  If I had a kid around Christmas and he/she complained, I would just tell them how long I was trying to have them and clearly they were a Christmas miracle.   Besides, you can't really plan this stuff.  You may have a January due date and then go early resulting in a Christmas baby.

Uggh not sure if this is my computer or the Bump or what but it keeps sending my messages before I am done typing! Anyway we are CD 2, on to cycle 7..I want to try every cycle but if we conceived next cycle we'd be due right before Christmas. Obviously we desperately want a child but this wouldn't be ideal. Trying to think of how I would feel with a birthday then..it would kind of suck I think. Just debating skipping next cycle if this one is a wash again. Just wondering if anyone else is debating this too! Have a

     great Tuesday!

I understand what you are saying, but you never know how long it is going to take.

I have been at it for 6 months/7 cycles and some awesome bumpies even longer then me. My bday is 12/2 right after thanksgiving and before christmas, and it didn't matter to me. Things in life are not always planned, heck I think we plan things too much. You are absolutely entitled to feel or think that way, but remember we have NO control over it. It is a miracle whenever my time is to be pregnant! I am not going to boss the big guy into when I ideally want it. GL OP! DO what is right for you.

  • No way!  I will gladly take one anytime and will be extremely thankful for whenever that time is.

  • Another No. If it were as easy as choosing which day our baby was born, I wouldn't choose Christmas but there's no way we will stop TTC just to avoid that.

You are fully aware that about 5% of babies arrive on their due date. It can (safely)be anywhere from 3 weeks before to 2 weeks after. So your December baby could be born in November or January. Or you could be due in February and end up with a December baby.

You can skip if you want, but I think it is a ridiculous reason to skip a couple months. There are holidays every month, there will always be something going on that would be a reason to skip a month. A child's birthday will only get overlooked if you as the parent allow that to happen.

Right now, I would love an end of December baby. Extra tax deduction for this year with little OOP cost, plus I accrue all my vacation and sick leave January 1, so I don't need to roll over much, just enough to get me to year end.

DS edd was Jan. 4th, and he came emergency c/s weeks early.  I do know that a baby can come early or late.  When we were ttc #1 we talked about waiting a month longer to start to avoid a near Christmas baby.  We were blessed to get pg the first cycle, and were beyond thrilled about it.

If we had any infertility issues, or had been ttc for a long time then we might feel differently.

I would never discourage anyone from ttc because of when you would be due.  To each their own.  This is just how we feel about it.

We also go above and beyond to made DS birthdays very special.  But, that can be difficult financially because of the time of year.
