Swaddle to Sleepack

Anyone else thinking about weaning off the swaddle? I have been keeping an eye on the Aden + Anais sleepsacks. I have a girl but the "boy" one is on sale so I think I am going to get it. Blue is great for girls too! =) If you are getting rid of the swaddle or have - what did you moved to?

Re: Swaddle to Sleepack

  • We've been using sleepsacks for a few weeks now and she really seems to have taken to them. I don't know the brand, I think they're just from Target. The biggest problem is that she will knock her pacifier out and freakout sometimes. Other times, she's totally cool with losing it.

She got sick a week ago, though, and there was a night when we really wished she still fit in her swaddle for comfort's sake.

  • We are currently weaning our 4 month old off of his swaddle.  I used the Halo Swaddler.  We started by leaving his arms out when we swaddled him.  He still felt safe and secure because the swaddle was still snug around his body.  Gradually we would swaddle his body looser and looser each night.  A few nights ago we switched him to a Halo SleepSack and he did great!  He was already used to his arms being out and he was getting used to not having the swaddle snug against his body.  Good luck!
  • We have tried twice with no success. LO started rolling really early, like 10 wks, before he was developmentally ready to no longer be swaddled (IMO).

We tried one arm out, both arms out, various sleepsacks... He just sleeps WAY better swaddled. Since he's not a great sleeper to begin with, we had to go back to swaddling-- not doing it resulted in 1-2 hr sleep stretches all night (I tried to wait it out but over a week later, still awful!)

So for now I will sleep in the same room as him and use an Angelcare. Maybe in a few more weeks he will be ready.

  • When we switched our son from swaddles to sleep sacks, we bought the Snooze Sack (made by SootheTime).  It is similar to Halo, except it has 2 flaps inside that velcro together around your LO's midsection (to create a gentle pressure similar to swaddling). The transition was really easy, fortunately. Now we use both the snooze sacks & halo sleepsacks (the cotton ones~the fleece made him sweat).

We've had trouble with this too and I don't know what to do. LO is 14 weeks and rolling all over the place but will not sleep without being swaddled. It makes me nervous to swaddle her arms in over night but she wakes herself up every half hour or so with them out. Startles herself flailing her arms and hitting herself in the face and stuff. We have halo sleep sacs as well but again, I need to bind her arms in for any of us to get any rest. Any suggestions?

  • Our LO has not been swaddled for quite some time now. He was getting out of the swaddle in the middle of the night which would wake him up and he would start crying. We immediately switched to sleep sacks and he has slept good ever since. We don't use any particular brand of sleep sacks but we usually have him in cotton PJs and use a fleece sleep sack since it is winter and our house is drafty.
