Hi Ladies,

I had into'd here in December after getting my third BFP in 8 months and having had 2 losses.  My OB sent me for betas - the first and second ones looked great but after the third one her assistant called to tell me my level had dropped and that I was going to have a miscarriage.  That was December 22.  We were completely devastated but carried on with our plans for the holidays.  We went away for a week to see family then came home and went on a cruise.  It was great and I felt like it gave me time to heal.  What didn't happen the whole time we were gone though was a miscarriage.  No bleeding, no cramping, nothing.  Other than swollen boobs I didn't feel pregnant.  I had a drink or two because I wasn't pregnant.  

We got home 2 weeks ago and I got really busy at work.  Part of my brain knew I should call the OB to let them know I hadn't actually had a miscarriage but I figured they'd just suggest a D&C and I didn't have time for that.  I figured my body would do what it needed to when it needed to.

Today was my appt with the OB to discuss the 3 losses and start RPL testing.  When I told her that I hadn't had a m/c yet she pulled up the betas on her computer and laughed.  Turns out my third beta was 42000 but she or her assistant had read it as 4200 and called to tell me it had dropped because the second one was 4600.   She pulled out a doppler and we instantly heard a heartbeat of 155.  Turns out I am pregnant after all.  And about 12 weeks along!

I'm still in complete shock.  I had entertained that very scenario in my head but always dismissed it as wishful thinking.  Part of me is livid that they made that mistake but I'm so giddy right now that I don't care.  DH was stunned when I called him.   In some ways I'm glad I didn't know because I didn't spend the whole 1st tri worrying but now I feel guilty about having a beer, taking advil, going in the hot tub.  

Anyway, if you made it this far you deserve an award.  I'm so happy to be back here and hopefully this time will stay around. For real.

    What a great surprise!  Congrats.  I'm sure baby is fine even with the few "no-nos" since you didn't party like a crazy woman!

    I'm sorry the assistant sucked but hey you got to skip the anxiety!  I am sorry you had to go through unnecessary sadness though.

    That is insane. I'm glad you had a good outcome, but I hope they would have done an u/s before d&c.  So scary. Congratulations on your healthy pregnancy and joining 2nd tri.

    That is so incredible!  Congratulations!!!  I don't think I would be able not to let my doctor know just how awful it was to go through that though, that is just unacceptable.  So glad it turned out for the best.

    Oh wow, that is a crazy story!!!  Great news for you that you didn't have horrible first tri symptoms or anxiety.  I would be upset at the error as well, but I'm so glad everything is going well for you!

    Wow! That is the craziest thing I've heard in a long time! I'm sooooo glad she made a mistake but I can't imagine what those few weeks must have been like. I'm sure the few no-no's are fine we all know and cringe at the ladies who have perfect babies and break the rules on purpose so we know it happens :) You didn't do any of those things thinking you were still preggo :) Congrats!!

    Oh my GOSH! That is so crazy! Wonderful but crazy! Seriously, I would be livid about what went down. Totally unacceptable. They should be really hoping you don't sue them.

    Oh my gosh!! You are moving onto the 2nd tri! Wow...I like you would be livid, but happy at the same time.  Babies are really resilient, and I'm sure just fine with a couple of drinks, but what if you had just went out and went crazy b/c they said you were having a m/c..or suggested a D&C.....medical errors are a big deal and unfortunately happen more than we like to think.....I would definitely be writing a formal complaint/grievance.

    We had some friends who almost aborted their daughter because they were given betas that were actually incorrect.  Luckily, they asked for another test, and it worked out that they were not having a miscarriage.

    Wow, what a roller coaster ride! How awesome that you had an unexpected happy ending!!!

    I am happy that things worked out that way....although, I don't think your doctor should have laughed as I am sure her little "mistake" cost you a lot of emotional pain, plus it could have hurt the baby. (If I were you, I would seriously think about changing doctors).

    Wow that is crazy! CONGRATS!

    I understand people make mistakes, but that is huge. If it was a bank and someone just "forgot to record a zero" that would be a huge deal! Hopefully she doesn't make such a mistake again.
