Let's hear it. The absolute worst, off the wall names your spouse has come up with for the LO.

Re: Give me your SO's worst name ideas

  • This morning, H was walking down the basement stairs and casually yelled up at me "HEY! What about Clifford?"

    Um, no.

  • These are jokes, but he says them all the time.  Espn (pronounced Espin) and Nikao (sp?), Greek for victory (where Nike came from).

And with the delivery trifecra of one twin vaginal, one c-section with general anesthesia for twin B, Spencer and Sidney joined us at 35 weeks exactly on June 18.

  • I don't have anything memorable but OMG, I can't wait to hear these.

  • We keep a Google spreadsheet with name ideas, and DH will put joke names on it every now and again- like Hot Dog for a boy.

  • DH makes all his suggestions while watching sports.  They are all either totally off the wall like, "Hey babe, I think RG3 sounds pretty cool.  I know this kid won't technically be a third, but we should come up with some way to include a number in the name, fo sho."  OR he just suggests all the super ethnic sounding names.  Ya know, because nothing would sound better with Benjamin than Vontaze or Alfonzo.

  • Urvin...It was my great grandpa's name..no sorry..maybe for a middle name. and de mentioned..Darla for a girl..like little rascals Darla...The first thing that came to my mind was "Dear Darla, I hate you stinkin guts" LMAO He said Dora once too...yep like Dora the explorer....lol

    I love the sentiment, but.....no.

  • Virgil, Ulysses, Wes (Yes Wes walker is hot, but I don't think its a life long name) Jack Daniel Hmmm... I wonder why? Silly Silly!!

DH is Wes....  The Bump icons don't work on my computer for some reason, but [insert tongue-sticking-out face here]!

  • Every time I try to brainstorm boy's names with DH, he either rejects all of my ideas, or comes up with something off the wall (I think he's really hoping it's a girl, so he's trying to avoid thinking "boy" right now).

    His most popular suggestion? Copernicus

  • A lot of DH's also appear while watching sports so

    Prince

    Bubba

    Ja'vonte

    Yuniesky

  • DH suggested Bruce for a boy and using his GMs names for girls: Vera and Estelle.  No thanks.  His maternal GM's middle name is May so if we have a girl, Maia is sort of honoring her but in a version I prefer.

  • Copernicus is awesome, lol!

We have a French Canadian last name, so he's been all about the French names...Jacques, Lucien, Jean, Maurice, Claude  Ick!

  • Oooh, DH hasn't given me any ridiculous ones that I can remember, but can I play anyway?

We have a friend who's last name is Shanley. He is insisting that his son will be named Stanley. I'm pretty sure he's mostly joking, but it's been a joke for a long enough time that I'm a little worried. :)

I once knew a little girl named Zoya Schmoyer. Most people call her Zoya Schmoya. It's heartbreaking. When I first heard it, I thought, "really? Did you not think that one through all the way?"

  • We have stopped sharing ideas with family due to some very opinionated family members so until the baby is born it will be called Sasquatch if it is a boy and Medusa if it is a girl. Funny thing is MIL thought we were serious and asked DH what nationality those are! Lol

DH is in love with spelling Amelia as Amilya which is pretty...but I deal with children with strangely spelled names all day and could never do that to our own child. Probably the most out there name we love is Orion (can't quite bring myself to use it as a first name) because DH proposed to me on Christmas Eve 2008 by diatracting me to look at the constellation while he got the ring out. Lol If it is a boy that will probably be the middle name.

  • Steve. Not awful, but completely random. Not Stephen or Steven. Just Steve. By the way, our last name begins with ST. He doesn't even want to think of names until we know the gender. He is holding most of his name cards very close to the chest.

  • DH mostly likes to suggest names just to wind me up: Trixie, Candy ... Names that sound potentially quite like a daughter who would grow up dancing on a pole.

His only serious name suggestion that I've veto-ed was Jezebel. I have no idea why he likes the name so much, and he seems to think most people won't make the associated biblical reference... But yeah, that name isn't going to happen.

  • My DH hasn't really given me any ridiculous names yet but my mom is giving me the WORST! She is insisting that we name the baby Ja' (something) like Ja'Juan, Ja'Darren, Ja'Michael...all of these African American athlete names. I am like MOM STOP! We are Italian we are not naming our kid something like that.

The weirdest one I heard was La-a which is pronounced (LaDashA) Really?!

  • Our last name is Cashion, MH said that if it's a boy we could name him Johnny and teach him to say....

" Hi, I'm Johnny Cashion" and dress him in black.

I know a guy who, for real,  insisted that if they had a son, his name would be Espn. His wife is very submissive so I don't think she would veto it. Thank God they are having a girl!!!

I had a La-a in a daycare class once... I didn't see her birth certificate so I can't vouch for its legality, but it was what she went by and what was on all her paperwork.

    Hero - for a girl.

Like in "Much Ado About Nothing"!  It's Shakespearean!   But yeah, probably wouldn't fly so well nowadays.

My husband was all about the French names, especially for girl names, especially if it ended in -ette . . . but we are not French in the SLIGHTEST.   I would have felt like such a wannabe.  Shot down!

Ahh, but we can call others "vaguely racist?"  [insert tongue-out smiley here]

The girl was already in the class when I started working there, so unfortunately I missed the original meeting with the parents.  I can't say I'd be surprised if it went something like that though, especially with the dad.  The mom seemed generally well spoken, but he was a different story.

  • Jack Jackson.  And he is serious and vetoes everything else I say.  I told him he better pick a runner up or he will be sorely disappointed!

  • So my DH pretty much says that I'm the one who will be pushing the baby out so I get first dibbs on names and he gets veto power if he absolutely hates it.

But my sister on the other hand, wanted to originally name her son Aspen Sundance [last name].  The only think I could think of is this poor little boy sitting on a swing in Kindergarten and every kid walking by saying, "good morning Sunny A$$hole", harsh but really couldn't handle it!  She ended up going with Gage as a first name. Much better!!

  • Boys:

DickRod (my dad is Richard, his is Roderick)

Morgan (our last name is one consonant off from Freeman)

Amadeus or Allegro (he's a classical pianist)

Xan or Zan (his name is Alex and he's trying to "be cre8tive")

    Girls:

Hephzibah (means "my delight is IN her" in Hebrew. omg)

    Isadore (for a girl?!)

    Mignon (he's French... and insane)

    Oralie (I have no words)

  • Don't flame me for this but my DH loves Shooter for a boy. I told him it would be an awesome nick name, but I couldn't possibly choose that as a legal first name. IF it's a boy, that is! ;)

    (Son of Zeus)

Yeah. I told him if ever was lucky enough to get a dog, I'd consider it. But we'll never get a dog, so....

  • If we were having a boy, DH really wanted to name him Brady. After Tom Brady.

It's a cute name, I just don't particularly want to honor a football star I couldn't care less about!

  • My DH is INSISTING on using Garfield as a middle name for a boy.  Unfortunately, it's a family thing (him, his dad, his grandfather all have it as a middle name), so I can't really veto it.

    His first name suggestions:

    Finian

    Angus

    Fergus

He's actually serious about those.  Ugh.  I finally negotiated my way to the point where I get to pick the first name.  I'm tempted to suggest Odie just to see if that will make him reconsider Garfield.

  • He threw Charisma out there for a MN. I couldn't help but tell him how aweful I thought it was.
