Yay! (Low lying placenta moved!)

Hi Ladies: I knew my low lying placenta was fairly common and likely to resolve itself back when I had my 19 week anatomy scan. But, I can't tell you how relieving it is to know that it has moved - It was over 6.2 centimeters away from the cervix at my follow-up scan today!

And, it was awesome to see my little man and all his amazing growth. We were even able to see some hair!

Any other ladies with low lying placentas early in pregnancy, good luck with your follow-ups!

  • I find out Thursday if my placenta moves. I'm so nervous cause 3 weeks ago I went in for my check up and the doctor was feeling around after he did my measurments he said it felt like it was marginal but he won't know till we do an ultrasound so thats what we are doing Thursday.
  • Congrats! I have complete placenta previa. My MFM is not very hopeful that it will move and my OB has begun to speak about c-section. I go back in in 1 month to check that and to look at other issues with my Baby Boy but you never know, it could move so thanks for giving me some hope!

  • Woohoo!

My follow up on mine won't be until I'm 36 weeks.

  • Hm... I'm not sure how he could tell just from feeling around. They actually had to pull out the transvag ultrasound to get a look at the placenta position. I don't know if they always have to do that or not, but in my case, even though it was really far away from the cervix now, it was pretty involved to get a true look at the distance. Good luck Thursday!
  • Ugh, I'm such a novice poster. That response was to you, Jessica :) Good luck to everyone else too though and thank you for the support everyone!

  • I too was told at 20 weeks that I had a low-lying placenta.  At that time mine was about 2.4 mm away from the cervix.  I had another u/s at 28 weeks and unfortunately, mine moved the wrong direction!  It's now only 2mm away.  Great....thanks a lot placenta!  So, I have another u/s at 34 weeks to see if it moves up.  My doc won't even discuss what this means with me until my 34 week appt.  If it stays at 2mm, will I have to go the c-section route?  Will I have a choice? Anyone know about this?
