DS took a hard spill this weekend. We were at the park, he was running, tripped and fell into the corner of a metal bench, face first. { Insert HUGE momma freak out here}. He cut his bottom lip, which bled a little. Then I saw the blood inside around his top two teeth. Once we got him calmed down enough to take a sip of water and rinse some of it away, it looked like the blood was just coming from around the gum line of one tooth. He would not let us get our finger in there long enough to see if it was loose. We came home, had lunch, and he seemed to be doing ok....he was able to eat cheese quesadilla and some cut up apple. I was thinking if it were really hurt/loose, he would have been in more pain or cried when trying to eat? He was ok for the rest of the day, but didn't want to eat much for snack or dinner. This morning, it is a little swollen around that tooth, and the gum is bruised. I tried to wiggle it, but it didn't feel loose, from what I could tell. He still didn't eat much breakfast, but did not seem to be in pain.
I haven't called the pedi yet, and am not sure if I need to? Have any of your LO's ever had a similar injury? I know if the baby teeth get knocked out, they won't replace them....so I guess we just need to keep an eye on it, to see if it gets worse? Ugh...this was such a scary event for us. And it could have been SO much worse, as fast as he was going/as hard as he fell. Made my mama heart ache SO bad. God help me for the next few years......

Re: Anyone's LO ever have a tooth injury?
Get it checked out! Not something I have dealt with in my children, but I have heard many stories. Also, how many times have you regretting getting something "checked out"?
I guess I'm just hesitating b/c I figure there is not much they can do?
Conor had a similar instance. I was trying to wash his hands after he went potty, he ran into the bedroom and proceeded to jump on the bed. He fell into the headboard and took a huge gash to his upper front teeth. They bled like a mother and bruised pretty bad. I, of course, freaked out double time because we were at our lake house in the middle of no where.
I watched his teeth for change in color and to see if they were loose. I never did call the pedi or anyone. Bad mommy! They healed and they looked fine later.
When he went for his first dentist appointment I mentioned casually to the pedi dentist about his fall. He was a bit concerned and wanted x-rays stat. He told me yes, the baby teeth fall out, but they can still hurt the roots of his adult teeth still under the gums. Luckily Conor's teeth and roots were fine.
Take him to the dentist to get them checked just in case.
