Plastic pants for PT'ing?

I know Gerber makes some plastic pants for potty training, but I heard they aren't very good.

We are just starting potty training now, and I want something that will prevent leaks when using training pants/underwear.  I know pull ups are easier, but I don't like how they are pretty much like a diaper.

I also don't want him peeing all over the hardwood floors by going around naked (we just bought a house).

Any recommendations??

  • Plastic pants..... never heard of that it sounds like a good idea...

We tried pull ups but yeah he doesn't seem to care if he gets wet/poopy just like when he wears diapers so not much point there!

  • The plastic pants tend to hold in moisture and they stink and wow can they make a mess!! Pull ups are just like diapers and a waste of money.

Have you thought about cloth training pants? Do a search on etsy for training pants you will find tons of different kinds.  They will save you money instead of buying pull ups or diapers during this stage.  Also your child will feel like they are wearing underwear with less of a mess

  • Gerber makes a potty training underwear that is not plastic. It's made of a thicker material so it holds more liquid. We have them for DD & they work pretty good. You'll still need to change clothes w/ them but might avoid ruining socks & shoes as well. They are cotton so not going to hold moisture & give a rash as easily either.

  • Hm thanks for the tips I'll check those out too. Not sure if Walmart in Canada will have them but I'll check it out. Or check out etsy or something for cloth training pants... Something because as long as this little guy is in any kind of diaper I don't think he will be very interested in using a toilet

  • We're using Dappi brand plastic training pants. They've worked great. There have been just  a couple leaks, but that's been rare. I bought them on Amazon. They can go in the washer and dryer and still hold up great.
