How many naps per day??

I'm not sure if this has been asked recently. so forgive me if it has:)

DS takes 2-3 naps per day but he's been fighting the last one of the day lately.  The problem is that if we just do 2, he's way too overtired before bedtime.  And, I can't seem to space things out any differently.

What is everyone else doing??

Re: How many naps per day??

  • My LO tends to take a nap about 2 hours after each bottle.  He sleeps at night from 10:30pm to about 6-7 am.  Then goes back down around 9 for about 3 hours.  Then he takes 30 minutes naps after the rest of his bottles.  So he takes about 4 naps a day.  Probably more than most little ones.

  • DD gets about 3-4 naps but most are pretty short. They are usually about 30-45 minutes. A long one for her might be closer to 60-90 minutes. I personally don't think she gets enough sleep.

  • Most days she does 2 naps....one in the morning around 1 hour and then one in the afternoon that is about 90 min.  On the random days that the afternoon nap goes crappy, like today, and only lasts 30 min, she will take another one around 430 or 5pm that she will fight. but that is the only way to get her to normal bedtime.

  • N wakes around 5:30-6 and naps from 10-12/1 and then again from 3/4-4/5. So he's getting a total of 2 naps for 3-5 hrs total. And then he's in bed by 8... he's never awake for more than 4-5 hrs at a time.

  • 2 naps a day.

Her first is 2 hours after she wakes up, and then her second is 3 hours after she wakes up from her first nap.  Then we try and put her to bed 4 hours after she wakes up from her last nap... sometimes she will go longer than that though.

  • DS dropped the 4th nap a few weeks ago and they started lenghtening where there were a couple of days he only had 2 of them.  But normally we have 3: 45 mins, and (2) 1 hour.  Other days he wakes up before 6am and on those days he almost always has 4 naps or he can't make it through the day.

  • DD naps from 8:00 to 10:30am  then 2:00 to 3:30pm and once more from 5:00 to 5:45pm.
  • DD takes two naps:  one at about 11, and one around 4.  Some days she'll need three naps because she's extra tired for whatever reason so we just "go with the flow."  I'm not a super-strict schedule keeper, though.

  • She has been consistently taking 2 naps a day around 9 am and 1 pm-ish. If they are less than 1 hour long in length, then I usually try to get her to take a 3rd nap in the afternoon around 3:30 pm.

When we starting nap training 2 weeks ago, the naps started becoming longer. The first nap was 1.5 hours and the second one was lasting 2 hrs. Unfortunately, DD came down with her first cold only a week after the training started and I had to stop it temporarily. Hopefully she'll get back into the long naps routine once she gets over her cold!

  • anywhere from 1-3. At daycare he is refusing the morning nap but taking a really long afternoon nap. Sometimes he has a quick pre-dinner snooze.

At home, i try and get the morning nap, even if it means me laying down with him, afternoon nap, and evening all depends.

  • On a good day, 2 longish naps ranging from 1 hour-1.5 hours each.  Depending on what time they fall and how long they are, some days she needs a 3rd nap.  I find that if her second nap lasts until 3 pm or later, then she can make it until bedtime at 7 pm.  If not, I try to squeeze in that 3rd nap but I don't let her sleep past 5 pm.

  • He usually takes 3 naps per day. The first one is about 30 minutes (but recently I can get him back to sleep for another hour or so) and about 2 hours after he gets up.  The second one is around 1pm and is around 1.5 hours.  The 3rd nap is at 5pm and only lasts 30-45 minutes and then bedtime is at 8pm.
  • J started belly sleeping at 6 months and it greatly improved his naps. He now takes 2 naps a day between 1-3 hours each. If one of those is cut short he'll take a 3rd quick nap before dinner.
  • 3 for M. 1-1.5 hours morning and afternoon and a 30-45 minute evening.

  • She usually takes 2 naps, ~30-60 minutes in length.  She sleeps a lot at night so I just don't think she has a lot of sleep left in her for naps.  Sometimes if the naps are particularly short she'll take another short one ~5pm.

  • Thanks ladies, so DS sounds right on track for naps...especially since he sleeps 11-12 hours per night.
