Screaming fits?

My LO is almost 19 months and I know he started his terrible twos early but this is crazy.  He has started to scream at the top of his lungs for nothing.  I mean a blood curdling Mariah Carey type of scream.  He does it if you tell him no or try to redirect him or if he gets frustrated with something.  He isn't talking yet and so I know he is frustrated, but his screaming sends him into a terrible fit, where he throws things, hits, whatever.  I try redirecting him and telling him no throwing with no help.  I've tried time out and sometimes it helps but the last few times no luck and this behavior seems to be worsening.  The last few nights he has screamed when going to bed and even has woken up middle of night.  Doc says its a stage.  Anyone else ready to pull their hair out with this "stage".  Tell me if something worked for you to help with this and when this stage ended.  Give me a light at the end of this very long tunnel.

    M is 20 months and my favorite fit was the 40 minutes of screaming while laying on his back because he was hungry but mommy and daddy said that he had watched enough 'Melmo' for the day and he needed to eat dinner. 

    I hear it gets better, I will let you know when it does.  What works for us is to ignoring the behavior.  Until he hits us or throws something heavy.  Then he gets to stand in the corner for one minute.  He really does not like that.  It hurts his feelings.

    I don't have any advice, but wanted to say that I feel your pain.  DS is definitely in a screaming (shrieking is more like it) phase as well.  Sometimes it's happy, just messing around shrieks, but then when I try to get him to stop, it turns into angry shrieks.  If I put him in his crib for time out, he cries and shrieks.  If I ignore him, he gets mad (and shrieks along with doing whatever else he can to get my attention). 

    For both of us, I hope this passes soon.
