I'm curious to know if anybody here is pumping only once at work in order to wean from the pump in a near future or if you have already done it. DD turned 8m last week and I pump twice at work and have a good freezer stash. I would like to EBF (+solids now) DD 'til she turns 1 and then just BF in the morning and at night. However, I would like to wean completely from the pump by when she turns 11m and use all my freezer stash then which I think it will cover those 4 weeks until she turns 1.
When should I start pumping once a day instead of twice. And if you have done this, how hard was the adjustment, did your supply dropped? and did your plan worked the way you were expecting?
So far this is what I do:
BF @ 6am
Pump @ 10 (20 min)
Pump @ 1:30 (20 min)
BF @ 5pm
BF @ 7pm (snack)
BF @ 830pm
BF sometime in the middle of the night. (Dont mind doing it)
Thanks!
Re: If you pump only once to wean from pump....
I pump only once at work, but it is more a matter of availability (I'm a teacher and the only time I am allowed to pump is at lunch). Anyhow, what I have been doing this past week is continuing to pump as much as I can. I had been supplementing with my freezer stash the past two weeks, but now it is gone and I have moved to supplementing with WCM. DD is 1 in two weeks though, and I didn't even think about the pump weaning process until recently. I plan to continue pumping until DD is transitioned fully to WCM. My plan is to not pump less frequently, but for less time, until I get fewer and fewer ounces.
If it were me, I would at least wait until DD is 9 or 10 months old to cut back to 1 session.
Thanks for your answer. I'm actually planning on dropping to one session when DD turn 10 1/2 months and then stop pumping by when she turns 11m and use up my freezer stash. I guess I'm worry that it will affect my supply and that I won't be able to nurse her. I love to nurse her, I just hate pumping. :S
I did this to wean from the pump! It's so freeing not to take it to work with me now! I dropped one pumping cold turkey and it hurt! So, the next one I lessened the pump time by two minutes every day until I got down to five minutes and then I just quit. It worked out better that way. I suggest that method for getting rid of each pump time. I still breastfeed during that time during the day on the weekends and whenever I'm off work and it seems to be working out fine.
