Northeast, do you have stink bugs?

Every time it gets warmer out, these fukkers come out of the woodwork. Literally. H woke up with one next to his face on the pillow.

If you have had this problem, has anyone found anything that kills them? I wish there was something I could do that would be the equivalent of sprinkling salt on a slug with these.

  • I've never heard of such a thing. The thought of waking up with a bug by my face makes me cringe!
  • I opened this thinking it was a call out to another bumpie.

  • Holy mother of god.  At my last job we would become infested by them every year.  I had one fall from the cathedral ceiling into my water.  Another time I went to pick up my phone and they were crawling on it and I screamed so loudly people thought I was being attacked.  They would crawl in purses and people would end up with them in the blowers in their cars.  OMG I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. *Shudder*

  • Yup, if my heater even goes above about 65, they come out. We keep the house between 60 and 62, and don't see them until it gets warmer.
    STM due Feb. 2017!
  • I saw one on our kitchen sink yesterday, but other then that, none since the summer.

  • I have seen them in DE, but not in MA or DE.

They are very disgusting.  In a relatives house in DE, they are everywhere.  The dogs eat them.

In the fall, it got to the point that we were concerned about our septic system with all the flushing. I started to save each flush until I had a couple of these a$$holes floating in there. Then I used a jug with scented soapy water to toss them into. I tried spraying soapy water all over my windows, I even smeared lavender oil on the frames. Nothing worked. This winter has been pretty warm so far, and when it gets above 50 outside they climb out of their hiding spots ready to head out.

I heard on NPR that some kind of a genetically modified wasp is being bred that may be able to kill off their larvae by laying their own eggs into them. I hope they are ready to go for this spring.

Thank you, I haven't heard of this trap yet. Looks cheap to make, will have to try it.

  • Yes, we have them. Our last house was the worst bc there were a lot of trees behind us, and it was an older home, so they literally swarmed when the weather got warm. We had to have an exterminator who would spray the outside of the house to deter them. It helped, but they still got in. We moved 15 miles away to a home with no woods, and I've only seen a couple. They are seriously nasty.

Ahh, see we're on sewer lines so no worries about septic for us.

I've heard ants and other insects dislike peppermint, so maybe that might work better?

  • I'm not in the northeast, but there are stink bugs here in Texas too. Along with every other type of vermin. We used to use Dursban, but now that it's no longer available, we've struggled to find effective agents.
