I really want to start making stuff for my baby, but I am not liking the gender neutral supplies I am finding. I have some handspun yarn for a hat that I will use, but I really want to start knitting an afghan and start sewing for the baby. Ahhhh!
I am calling on Monday to set up an elective ultrasound to find out the sex at 17w, since my a/s is not scheduled yet. I know, bad, bad.
I just wish Knit Picks had more colors in washable yarns.

I'm making an afghan in pea green w hot pink and orange stripes. Goes both ways.
Likely will be done 2017 some time.
Absolutely. Just let me know what colors you want, etc. I might have enough handspun yarn for you. Shoot me a FB message.
. Hats are easy and I have this great pattern for a cute gnome style one, but we can talk about that too.

I bought a bunch of cotton yarn on sale and have been using it to knit things like bibs and washcloths. Let me see if I can find it online. Its a nice rainbow yarn---bright and fun but also gender neutral.
ETA: its the peaches n creme line. And cotton is nice because its so washable and soft. For some reason this pic doesnt look as bright as it is IRL. It's really cheerful.

Oh I hear ya! I have been itching to schedule an elective US done too since I don't have my 20 scan scheduled yet either. I don't go to the doctor either again till the 26th so it won't be scheduled till at least then. I am wanting to know so I can start picking fabrics for the bedding I am making!
You can! I taught myself how to knit two weeks ago by watching YouTube videos and I've already knitted a scarf with a complicated pattern (for practice) and now I'm ready to start on baby blankets. I seriously taught myself in 10 minutes (while in the car watching on my iphone!) and had never knitted or crocheted before in my life.

If you can knit a scarf, you can definitely knit a baby blanket. They are a great place to start too, because they are small and don't take as long as a big afghan. And they aren't too intricate, like a sweater. Its just a big square!
This basketweave pattern is easy, just knits and purls:

I started crocheting my first scarf in...I think..2009? Still not finished. Sigh.
I'm itching to get crafty, though. It's weird for me because I've never been crafty or really had any desire to be. But now I want to make everything.
I buy the majority of my yarn from Knitpicks.com. They are awesome and just got a whole bunch of new yarns in.

Weird, I'm the opposite. I can't quite grasp knitting but I've been crocheting as long as I can remember. You'll get the hang of it
What about a cute chevron blanket in gender-neutral colors? I've sort of been on a chevron kick lately.
I just learned how to knit last month---EEK---still making myself a scarf but I cannot wait to make something for baby... I too will wait till I find out the sex though (a/s will be @ 18 weeks for me)... I have so many yellow ones from DS that I would realy like something gender specific.
Question b/c I am new to knitting.. how do you know what to buy online w/o looking at it/touching it? Any suggestions?
