March 2012 Moms

I was doing so well...

So I have been really healthy so far throughout this pregnancy. Then I get a UTI a couple weeks ago, followed by a yeast infection from those lovely antibiotics, and now I wake up from a short nap and feel like I've been hit by a truck.  I was able to dodge all this cold/ sinus infection stuff going around at work until today. This sucks. Any suggestions? I know that we are pretty limited on medications we can take right now. So far I am laying on the couch with hot decaf tea and some tylenol. I am totally congested, but can't seem to blow my nose (TMI, I know. Sorry!)

Sorry for the whiney post, but I just feel like crap this afternoon.

  • Try a Netti-Pot!

It is safe and all natural, just water and saline solution. It works wonders!

  • Oh, good idea! My mom keeps telling me I should try that some time. I may have to go get one tomorrow.

I agree! Netty Pot or the sinus rinse bottle.  You can also take Robitussin, which helps break up mucus.  Works for sinuses, its just like taking a lower does of Musinex.   Also try steam...turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom and breathe the steam.

  • There are certain cold/sinus meds that are safe to take, just double check with your ob. I'm also a huge fan of Vicks cream. It works wonders for me when I'm stuffed up.

I have a cold right now, the second during this pregnancy. It is not fun. Feel better!

  • I've been battling a cold since Wednesday and it sucks.  So far, I've used a Vicks inhaler and that's it.  I may have DH pick up some saline nasal spray for me, but I haven't taken any meds for the cold other than Tylenol just yet because I am hoping this will run its course and go away on its own.  Our immune systems kind of suck right now, so that's why we are catching things left and right! I hope that you feel better soon!

  • I went to the Dr because I have been sick with a sinus infection for over 2 weeks now and wouldn't you know I am allergic to the 2 most commonly used meds safe for pregnancy! They found one though and I guess it helped somewhat but I got a  vicks humidifier and it is amazing. My mom bought it and said it is for the baby but I really don't want to give it up!

  • Sorry you're not feeling well, I am still getting over a cold that magically came on last Saturday. When I saw my OB yesterday, she did say Afrin was ok to use for only a few days and only once a day. I know not all OBs agree but mine said it was better to use that than to not be able to breathe. She also said regular Sudafed and Claritin were ok to take.

I have not tried the Netti Pot out because it sort of freaks me out (I don't really know why) and saline sprays have been just as useless. Hot showers worked really well for a little while but after maybe a half hour after I got out I was congested again! Hope you find something that works for you and you start to feel better!

  • Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! I am hoping to just rest tonight and get some meds tomorrow. Hope the rest of you feel better as well!

  • If you are stuffy and your nasal/sinus passages are possibly swollen, neti pot might not work. I used regular sudafed, which was approved by my doctor, and it worked the best for me.
