pregnancy dreams

I know everyone gets really crazy dreams when they're pregnant, but all I ever hear are usually pretty decent dreams. I would kill to have a weird sex dream over the MC dreams that I've been having. Is there anything at all I can do to control these dreams? I'm willing to try anything to not wake up feeling this way.

Re: pregnancy dreams

  • Not sure about how you can control them. However, I have read (in the context of pregnancy) that dreaming is your minds way of working out your fears and anxiety. Apparently there have been studies that have found that women who dream more while pregnant tend to have easier labors, and also less postpartum depression. It's believed to be because these women have already somewhat confronted and worked through many of their anxieties and emotions through their dreams, making it easier for them to cope during the labor and post-birth process.

But, I know the miscarriage dreams suck. I had quite a few of them my first few weeks. I found they went away after I had seen the baby a couple of times, and everything looked really good. That helped me relax and feel comfortable about the pregnancy. And once that worry had begun to subside, so did the dreams.

  • I have had crazy pregnancy dreams. I had them with my first pregnancy too.  A lot of mine seem to involve ex-bfs which weirds me out. I just finished my progesterone suppositories, so I think they may decrease in frequency now - I kind of remember that happening with my first pg.  I'm sorry you're having m/c dreams. That would suck! I don't know what to tell you to make them stop, but pp makes sense about easing your mind by hearing baby's hb and seeing him/her on u/s.

Ditto! Last night I dreamt the baby was my ex bf's (who tried to kill me irl) and that he had cheated on me and I killed his mistress and was all upset and crap. I woke up this morning thinking "God I wish our breakup had been that easy" haha

  • Those dreams are awful and it's terrible to wake up from them, but the best thing I've found is to just not let it affect me. I know that sounds ridiculous, but especially if I can calm down and go back to sleep for even a few minutes, I tend to wake up feeling a little better (mentally, anyway). I try not to focus on the dreams at all once I'm up and moving and really try not to think about them during the day at all. Maybe the less you think about them, then less they'll haunt you. But it takes a lot of control.

  • My dreams are too explicit right now... its bad, and then I wake up and want to jump DH... its good and bad... esp since most of them have been about my HOT co-worker.... Makes for uncomfortable meetings when he is in them... at least for me because I have flash backs to the dreams... so bad!!!
