January 2012 Moms

Are we too scared for UOs this week?

Was last week too intense?  I will start.

1. I hate Reeces Cups.

2. I don't understand cloth diapering. I don't have anything against it, I just don't understand it. I don't know the reasoning behind it.

  • Totally didn't realize it was Thursday!

My UO- I don't like the super babyish crib bedding. I know they'll only be a baby once, but it's usually way too over the top for me.

  • I too don't like Reeces Cups! I thought I was the only one in the Universe LMAO

I don't think the "Edward from Twilight" actor is hot (don't know his name now)

I really don't like the gigantic head bands with huge flowers that are bigger than the baby's head

I could smack people who say eXpresso instead of esspresso, supposeBLY intead of supposedly, or accrossT instead of accross UGH DRIVES ME NUTS!

I'll think of more, gimme a sec :P

  • Both of mine are about food, but I've been so hungry lately that food is all I think about these days.

    1. I can't stand seafood.  Everyone tells me that I'm missing out by not eating lobster or shrimp, but if I can't even stand the smell what makes you think I'd like the taste?

    2. (This may be just an U/O for my family, but oh well)  I don't like honey crisp apples!  I can't stand them and no I will not eat them!

This cracked my ass up. My DH says expresso and expecially. I literally FLIP OUT on him when he does it. So aggravating! UGHHHHHH!

I hate when people see me waddling and panting, and still feel the need to ask me how I'm doing. I'm obviously not very comfortable, so STFU already.

  • I have a feeling these might not be unpopular, but whatevs...

    1. I think its embarrassing/sad that so many conversations these days include the phrase "I saw it on FB." However, I was a TOTAL instant messager stalker in college...

    2. People who make mean comments on news articles, etc. suck and need to get a hobby.

    3. When we start looking for a Nanny, if she/he misspells/uses poor grammar in their emails to me (if/when we initially screen via email) I will be a judgey-judgerton and wont consider them for the position.

    1.   I think drinking small amounts of alcohol are fine - say 1/2 glass every 2 or 3 weeks.  I think all the rules that socitey places on pregnant women are the reason we are seeing so many kids with allergies.  Too many things on the 'don't eat/drink list'.

I agree 100% on this.  I think people need to chill the eff out on the pregnancy dos & don'ts.  Everything in moderation imo!

I seriously don't get it when people frantically try and induce labor once they hit 37 weeks.  Those last few weeks are crucial for baby brain wrinkling and every day that the baby stays in there decreases the chances of health problems.  Plus, baby will come when baby comes.  Sitting on your yoga ball, castor oil, spicy foods, pineapple etc aren't going to make much of a difference.  Even sex- the only one that doctors actually give a head nod to- won't change your baby's birth date unless s/he is ready to come out!

I agree but it's not stopping me from rocking on my birth ball, sex, pineapple, evening primrose oil, etc.(by the way, which have all been suggested to me by my midwife to start doing) There's a saying how the fruit will fall from the vine when it's ripe. But at the same time, there's no harm. If it makes me feel like I'm doing something productive to get her here sooner, then so be it. Natural induction methods only work when the baby is ready as well!

One or two of each child is enough for me, and everything else just seems like you care more about showing off and AWing than wishing me a Merry Christmas. Don't get me started on some of the Christmas letters we get. in theory I have no problem with them, but the ones that are a brag fest annoy the hell out of me.

We are doing it for the money savings mainly. Yes, it's a big up front cost but when compared to the long term cost, the savings is great. And I did my own math, not just take the word of a random website saying I'm going to save like $5,000. That's not the case. It's closer to a $1,200 savings based on the cost of the cheapest disposable diapers available in bulk in my area. But it's still money saved.

The environmental factor & chemical factors really aren't as big of a deal/impact as the cloth community makes it out to be in truth. Diapers still have to be made, a lot of the inserts and such in the pocket, AIO/AI2 diapers aren't completely natural and are man made in factories...with chemicals.

Anyways, have you seen a fluffy bum? Way cuter than a disposable covered bum!

I def agree with that.  I think it just REALLY bugs me when people flip out because they haven't had the baby yet after eating some pineapple.  It makes me stabby. (>.> mammaxb?)

Right?! I heard that the amount of pineapple (FRESH, mind you!) that needs to be eaten in order to even truly contemplate inducement is like 3 whole pineapples in one sitting. I'm sorry but that's too much acid for my mouth to handle!

  • 1.  I don't want a work baby shower. I think it's weird. I come here every day to earn a paycheck so that I can provide for my child, not so that I can get gifts when something happens in my life.  I'd rather keep my personal life and work life as separate as possible!

     2.  I should have cheated on my ex-h earlier.  Too much time was spent very unhappy, while tip-toe-ing around my feelings for my SO (who was then my bff).  Ok... let me edit that... I should have left my ex-h earlier.... WAIT!... no, cheating was quite the thrill ride & I don't regret any of it!   :)  Bahaha, I'm such a terrible person!

Hmm, UO: I loathe this whole Elf on a Shelf thing. It's creepy and strange. Also, as a child I believed my mother and santa were pretty much omniscient. They didn't need no stinkin' spyin' elf.

I am too cheap to spend $ on Elf on a Shelf, but even Santa doesn't work as a threat around here. I told my son Santa is watching the other day, and he said "I don't care. I have all the toys I need." Guess I'll stick with actual discipline and not threats with this one :)

YES!! For some strange reason, DH is all about getting LO's ears pierced soon. I didn't get mine pierced till high school, and never felt like it was a big deal. I say, wait to do it till 1) they ask for it, as you said and 2)they are old enough to clean them, keep them from getting infected, and take care of nice jewelry, etc.

My UO: I HATE clothes that put bratty or fake grown-up words in kids' mouths "I'm spoiled," "I'm a princess", "fashionista", etc.  I hope to raise a sweet, kind, humble and modest child, not a brat, and have no interest in announcing to the world that my 2 month old baby is "hot" or whatever.

  • I know not all of you are there yet but i despise mommy and me groups. as soon as LO are born i know a lot of you will join with the best of intentions, to make friends and interaction and what not. Every group I have ever checked out always turn into a competition. m baby rolled over first oh well my baby is smart because x,y,z. It really doesn't stop at groups even school age kids' parents do it to. I'm all for being proud of your kid and wanting to share your excitement but there's a difference between being proud and being petty. Please promise me you won't become one of those parents, and when you come across those parents don't take anything to heart. Your baby is perfect, and will develop on their own time. They will walk when they are ready, talk when they are ready don't compare your child's progress to anyone else.

Physically, I can only shave half of my left leg.  Not lazy, but I have freakishly long legs so I can shave my whole right leg, and the inside of my left leg but not the outside.  I could try with my left hand, but it wouldn't be pretty...   So, in other words, I can still shave 3/4 of my legs, sounds weird but its true.

I physically can't shave my legs currently. If im standing in the shower and i bend to do it, I end up dizzy and have slipped and fell. In my tub, I can't bend to do it and breathe at the same time.

DH does it for me, and acutally it has become one of my fav parts of this pregnancy. We have laughed so much during shaving time. Also, the first time DH got to SEE baby move was when he was shaving my legs, so bath time is like our family time.

so.. call me lazy, i really CANT do it, and plus I'm loving the time its giving me and my husband :)

I hate when mom's claim they are so busy they can barely shower, and showering is a luxury.  No...it is a necessity.  I had a kid before.  I still found time to shower every day.  I'm sure I will find the time this time around too.

I'm not too pregnant to shave my legs, but I'm the worst leg-shaver EVER so in the winter it rarely happens, anyway. Good thing DH isn't getting any action or he would probably be pretty offended. I had a friend tell me that I wouldn't be able to wipe my own butt and she was completely certain that it would happen to me. I don't have this problem...not even a little bit. I don't know HOW she managed to lose the ability to wipe her own butt.

However, I had someone recently request prayer for family members (4 of them) who traveled to Africa and ALL got malaria. Now, I really hate prayer requests when you act like an effing moron and then want people to feel bad for you. Who goes to Africa without getting vaccinated?! I want to opposite pray for you if you're that stupid.

Um, we will still do all of those things.  It is not that hard.  Just raise a kid that knows how to behave in public.  And people do travel all over the world with children.  It's not that hard.  I love in a tourist destination and people always bring their kids here.

ETA: That should be Typhoid. They all got Typhoid AND Malaria.

Haha...I hate those too.  Along with the repost of you care type things.  I just want to delete those people sometimes.

And....so what in the hel! did your friend do??  Stop wiping her butt?  Have her husband do it?  Spray her crack down with a water bottle?  I don't get it:/

I have no idea what she did. I didn't ask because I didn't want a visual of her husband having to wipe her butt. Maybe she just meant being able to do it in a normal fashion? Either way, I have full access to my butt.

  • I hate the term "santa ana winds"... its actually Santanna winds. Some idiot reporter messed it up years ago and everyone does it now. Nothing to do with the City of santa ana.

"if your not christian why do you celebrate christmas? Well uh, it was a pagan holiday before christians adapted it. **sigh**

This actually has nothing to do with your UO, except for that it relates to Africa!  My brother & his family are moving there next year and I have friends that live there and while they are all being/are vaccinated for malaria, they still have a high risk of actually contracting the disease.  The vaccination for malaria only helps to downgrade the disease, it really doesn't prevent against it, so if anybody would go live in Africa they would likely get it anyway, regardless of whether they've been vaccinated or not!

Thank you. The only reason Christian Christmas is celebrated this time of year is because the Pagans were already partying it up for Yule and the church didn't like it.

    Ha!....Love this!

It was more about the Typhoid. They have typhoid vaccines and I find it hard to believe that EVERYONE got the same illnesses if they had been vaccinated or were properly defending themselves. I know plenty of people who have been to Africa and didn't get sick. On top of which, one of them was in poor health already. What are you doing going to Africa when you are in poor health? Genius.

For whatever reason I don't like the term Nursery...I prefer Baby's Room.

I have no idea why...nothing against the word Nursery or anything.  Random, I know.

    Big Smile

    I say baby's room 9/10 times. I don't know why either.
