    YAY!  Congrats!!

    I did prepay my OB, but it was only a couple hundred dollars and it was about the middle of my pregnancy.

    So exciting!  Congrats!

    They can't force you to prepay, but they want you to because then they get more of your money (deductible/co-insurance) before the hospital swoops up, takes it all and your insurance says you've hit your out-of-pocket maximum for the year.  But, sometimes they don't submit it in time and the hospital gets to it first and then they have to refund the money, just like A&Jmom said.  I'd much rather my OB get more money than the hospital and no way would I pre-pay the hospital.  They can bill me and we'll see what happens when everything is said and done.  The OB office will almost positively reimburse you before the hospital would.

    Now back to the fun part...Eek!  Yay, again!

    You know I am SO excited for you ;-)  And I'm especially excited to see how life with 3 adorable little K's is!

    We prepaid with both and I think I ended up getting some money back with the 2nd since our insurance changed.

    Congrats! I prepaid at RWG. It was something called OB Global.

    I prepaid my portion of the cost (10%).  I think they requested it paid by the second office visit.  This is also RWG.

    Yes, because I looked at my insurance plan and knew I'd owe money. I don't expect my doctors to work for free. It is their job. Their livelyhood. I expect to be paid for the work I do and so I deliver the same.

    The receptionists are pushy because people don't pay them. Could you run a business where people skip out on their bill all the time?

    Now the hospital is a much larger enterprise that is suprisingly less accurate about their so called estimates. So no, unless absolutely required, I do not prepay the full amount. They are capable of absorbing that cost in the short term until they give me a more real number following actual services rendered.

    I did not have to prepay for my OB last time.  This time we are prepaying for the whole thing, but that is the policy of the birthing center.  We are paying in installments so it is all paid for prior to birth.

    OMG!! I am so very  happy for you and your DH and your boys!! This is so very exciting!! WOW!! I just want to give you a very big hug :)  YAY!! (I just can't help myself...this is so wonderful!!)

    We didn't have to pay anything for E, but since then they changed their policies I guess because with this last pregnancy they were going to have me pay my deductible ($2000) or set up a payment plan by the second visit.  I was super surprised too since it was completely different with E.

    I had to do this very thing--high deductible and all--I think they (the "office") still owe us money--I've been too lazy to go and doublecheck/complain so it's pretty much my fault.

    CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm (clearly) very excited for you Party!!!

    Yes, I had to pre-pay both times.  My insurance only covers 80% so I was responsible for 20% for L&D plus my deductible.  My OB required full payment of what I would owe them (my 20%) by the end of my 2nd tri.  I was able to do it in 3 installments though, so it wasn't as big of a hit.  Also, be careful (well watch for it) when you do this.  What happened  is the OB took the money for my deductible but they don't actually submit it to insurance until after delivery.  But the hospital submitted the bill first so the insurance had me down as needing to pay the hospital the deductible, but I had already paid it to my OB. It was easy once i figured it out and the OB reimbursed me but it was stressful trying to figure it out at first.

    This happened to me too. I pre-payed the 20% plus the deductible to the OB, but ended up owing the deductible to the hospital. It took the OB forever to refund my money.
