wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. go ringless?

i finally had to take my wedding ring off today.  i feel naked without it and am considering buying a dummy one, but i don't know if it's worth it for just a few more weeks.

when did your wedding rings stop fitting?  and are you going ringless?  i feel really self-conscious!  i get enough weird stares as it is since i look really young and am on campus (a grad student in my 30s!).

Re: wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. go ringless?

  • I've been ringless for a few months! I've tried to put it back on a few times but it won't fit.

You could always wear your wedding ring on a secure necklace around your neck!

  • Mine still fit but I took them off in case of another L&D trip because the IV fluids made me blow up like a balloon. People can judge if they want to; I really don't give a sh!t.

  • Mine stopped fitting today also! I think I am just going ringless from here on out, I don't care what other people think! I work with the 55+ crowd so I am sure I will get some comments. I am happy it fit this long, but if you are concerned just run to claire's and pick up a $10 ring.

  • I haven't been wearing mine since summer.  I'm not really swollen in my hands, but the heat/humidity we had this past summer would make me randomly swell up (totally normal, but with the extra weight gain it made my rings uncomfortable).  I took them off then more as a precaution than because they did not fit.

I wore them on a chain for awhile, but now I'm just ring free.  I keep debating going to get a cheap set for the meantime, but I don't really care too much what people think - it's more because I feel weird without them on.

Same here..... occasionally on a good day I can get just my bands on, but not my ERing in probably about 6 weeks now. I just go ringless. I think dummy rings are kind of silly. It's not 1950. I don't have anything to prove to strangers.

  • Mine haven't fit since I was pregnant with DS. :( Even though I lost all of my baby weight, my hands and feet never went back to their original size. I've been avoiding getting them re-sized, thinking they may go back to normal someday. I have gotten the side-eye from some people, but I don't really care. I know that I've been happily married for eleven years.

  • Ringless here since last week. While I miss my pretty rings, I do not feel like I have to get dummies to please other people around me.

  • I took mine off a couple of weeks ago, I wear another ring I have because my finger feels naked.

  • I bought a fake one.  I can't stand being out without a ring on.  I got it on sale at JCPenney's for about $7.

  • My engagement ring stopped fitting 2 weeks ago, but my band is a half size bigger, so I can still wear it.  Honestly, I would just go ringless.  Even my band is getting snug.  I'm a teacher and all my coworkers know I am married, but I wouldn't care either way.  It's no one's business and I'm generally the kind that doesn't care what people think about me.
  • I wear my rings around my neck on a secure necklace. I feel naked without them, and frankly being a young professional I don't need the judgements from others.

  • I haven't worn mine for a few weeks now, the swelling at random times made me scared they would get stuck on and I wouldn't be able to get them off. I wanted to wear them on a chain but my husband is worried something will happen to the chain and I will lose them. The only reason is because I feel naked without them. Everytime I wash my hands I get a little panic like I've lost them.

I didn't realise people were so judgemental about pregnancy/marriage. I haven't gotten a single look or comment (that I'm aware of), maybe people are just less judgemental where I live.

  • I've not been wearing my rings since July...I miss them!!!  I had an older band DH bought me while we were dating I've worn, it's a bigger size.  Although that's getting tight.  I'll probably be ringless soon, oh well.  I know I'm married.

  • Mine haven't fit since DS1...lol...and this is my 3rd child. DH can't wear his either because of his type of work (it's a safety hazard). I keeps aying one day I will resize my rings but then I keep getting pregnant...lol. Since this is officially the lasto ne maybe I will actually get the opportunity this time.

  • I've had my rings resized twice since I got pregnant. I don't like not wearing my rings, and my ring sizing is free and takes less than an hour (at Jared).

  • I'm still wearing mine, but on the days I haven't due to swelling I've never had a comment or side-eye. No one really cares if you are married or not.

  • I couldn't get mine off this morning to get in the shower :( I'll be wiggling them off at some point today and putting them on a chain. I only take them off when I'll be showering or doing something really messy, so I'm going to feel naked without them on.

  • I've been ringless since about 5 months; it just got too uncomfortable and started getting sticky on there and didnt want to chance it actually getting stuck. I tried the necklace but then opted against it because it was so hot and I just didnt like it clunking around. I've gotten a few stares but I decided I really didnt care. I know whats up and thats all that matters.

  • Mine still fit and I intend to wear them during labor and delivery too. My hands never swell during pregnancy, but if by chance they do in the next 2 weeks, I will just have to take them off I guess. I'll feel naked too!

  • I had to stop trying to take mine on & off about a month ago now.  I hate being without it & feel naked too, but my finger was just getting too sore.  Was going to put it on a chain, but then worried about losing it. (I'm paranoid I know.) So it is sitting in my jewelry box safe & sound waiting for the day I can put it back on. Really want to have it for newborn pics though so I may have to force it :)

  • I can't wear mine 24/7 like I'm used to but so far can still get it on. I don't wear it in certain public places I'll be walking alot (like the mall). My wedding set is somewhat wide so I have more problems with that than a thinner band. I have a thin diamond band that I wear out whenever I think my other one will be a problem.

I went out ONCE by myself shopping without a ring and felt so self-conscious. I even had women giving me looks. I checked out at JCPenney and the cashier even tried to pry about whether I was married or not. I couldn't believe it! I too look young but I never look at any pregnant women for rings...it just doesn't make sense...we swell!!!

I would say if you like jewelry then buy a small thin band. It doesn't have to be expensive. If you have a local Kohls they have lots of Sterling Silver ones that will last you through the last few weeks. Or if you want something bigger it might fit on your middle finger after LO is here.

  • The last time I wore my ring was at my baby shower on Oct. 8th. It still fit after that, but it was getting really tight, especially at the end of the day, and I was afraid it was going to get stuck. I didn't get a dummy ring--figured it was just a few more weeks, and I have a nickel allergy too, so I have issues with a lot of jewelry. I really miss wearing my ring, and it freaks me out from time to time when I realize that I don't have it on. Hopefully it will fit again soon! :)

  • Mine still fits most of the day.  It is tight but it is still on.

With DS, I had to take it off a few months before I had him.  I got a simple silver band to wear.  It fits on my thumb when I'm not k/u.  I didn't care about strangers thinking I was an un-wed mother, but I have been wearing a ring on that finger for so long that I felt naked & needed to have SOMETHING on.

  • I had to take mine off this weekend.  My hand felt naked (I usually play with my rings when I'm nervous), so I went to Kohl's and found a dummy ring for about $8.  It's actually a cute ring with a blue topaz (December birth stone).

  • Mine hasn't fit for about 3-4 weeks. I started wearing it on a chain around my neck and found a ring in my jewelry box that fits my finger so I wear that instead.

Do you plan to keep resizing them for subsequent pregnancies/when you loose the swelling/weight from this pregnancy? It could really damage your rings to do that.

  • I haven't had any swelling and my ring still fits the same.  I just wear a simple band.  But if I did have swelling, I'd get a dummy ring to wear.  I've never gotten any judgey stares on the times I've taken it off and left the house, but I hate the numerous moments of panic where my brain goes "OMG I lost my ring oh yeah it's at home on the bathroom counter nevermind".
