Headache - what is safe to take?

I have a pounding headache...is it safe to take anything?  I would call my dr but it will take awhile for them to return my call and I need to take something ASAP!  Its to the point its making me nauseous and I can't focus at work!

  • You can take tylenol (acetominophen).

Another thing that can help is a small amount of caffeine (up to 200mg/day is safe in pregnancy), if the tylenol alone doesn't cut it.

I got a pounding headache about an hour ago and Tylenol doesnt do anything for me, so I went and got a diet cherry coke, I've only taken about 3 sips so far, and I can  already feel it easing up...

  • Use the caffeine as a chaser for the Tylenol. Because caffeine circulates your blood faster (among other things), it'll help to push the Tylenol through your system and you'll feel the effects sooner.

  • At my appt the other day the nurse told me that 1 cup (or can) of caffeine a day is now okay, esp. if you have a headache. I suffer from frequent migraines (was on preventative and rescue medications), and they said Tylenol and a can of coke.
