Pregnant after IF

Prenatals?

I take a Flintstone vitamin daily plus 800 extra mg of folic acid and a vitamin c pill. My IF doctors have told me it's ok to continue doing this because whenever I've tried regular multivitamins in the past they've caused serious stomach upset. I would like to try an actual prenatal though...and I got a sample of CitraNatal Harmony to try. Is anyone on this? Or what prenatal do you take that you like? Does it have DHA? Thanks for any tips. I feel silly taking Flintstones!

I take the CVS otc prenatal, along with a 400mcg folic acid and the generic for expecta for DHA.  I've never had a problem, even when in the throes of my morning sickness.  I take it at bedtime, right before going to bed. Good luck finding a prenatal that works for you! The good news is that there are literally tons to choose from!

Target has a gummy prenatal that a lot of people take because it's easier to digest.  Not sure taking a gummy vitamin is much of a step up from Flintstones, though!

I was sick my whole pregnancy, the Flinstones were the only vitamins I could tolerate. Those and 1 Slow FE iron pill each day. Anything else and I was green and sick.

Between my IBS and having an insane amount of food allergies, my stomach is extremely sensitive. I even got sick off Flinstone vitamins.

My nutritionist recommended Genestra brand Pregna-Vite and you can get them at most health food stores (it's a pretty popular brand of natural supplements). To my amazement, they are the only brand that hasn't upset me - they're fantastic! I also don't get the nasty vitamin burps for hours on end with them. They don't have DHA in them, but they've got everything else that's important in the proper/recommended amounts.

I totally giggled when I read that you're talking flinstone vitamins.. only because I remember being a kid fighting my siblings for the car vitamin! we all wanted the car and there were only like 5 of them in every bottle! LOL. ok so when I first started prenatals my OB gave me a bunch of samples and they were like horse pills ...I struggled with swallowing them. then when we moved onto IVF my RE also prescribed citra natal which I loved because of its size..I have continued to use citra natal and its generic which I think is Vinical. smallish in size and never been sick with it. I also take a separate DHA though just as precaution and 4 mg extra of folic acid. but hey nothing wrong if flintstones work for you!

I second PP on the gummy pre-natals - Target has some generics, and there is another brand that is available at Target and Wal-Mart. They seem to be pretty easy on the stomach, but when I took them I would take an extra one because they contain lower amounts of many vitamins and nutrients compared to others. Also, I know most pre-natals contain 600-800mcg of Folic Acid, but my RE wants at least 1000 so I take a folic acid supplement with my pre-natal as well.

I just switched to the gummies and I love them... only problem is they do not have iron, so I need to find an iron supplement that isn't too high (most otc iron tablets have too much).  Going to talk to the pharmacist tomorrow about ordering me some... it's too bad I need the iron, because for the last 2 days i've been on the gummies, the constipation has gone away.  Stupid iron!
