I was watching The Doctors yesterday and they mentioned this item that monitors baby movements and if no movement vibrates at 15 seconds and I think sets an alarm for parents at 20 seconds.
Anyone use it? Think its a waste of money or something valuable?
I suppose it supposed to assist in limiting SIDS.

That's what I've heard too.
I have also heard that they produce false alarms a lot, which obviously scares the crap out of you for no reason. I go with the standard sids prevention... fan in the room the baby is sleeping in, pacifier if they will keep it in (mine wouldn't), baby on back no matter how much they "love" sleeping on their tummy and NO smoking around baby. If you do all this you are really doing the most you can.
My mother in law just mentioned this to me the other day. I looked it up online, watched the video, and read the reviews. It has 4.5/5 stars in the reviews. I will definitely be getting one of these for each baby. I think it's a great idea. Based on the way they explain it working, I believe it would work to let you know if there's an issue. My spouse and I are both nurses and believe this is a great idea.
As for false alarms, there's really no way to prove if it was false. How do you know that your baby wasn't having an apnea episode, but then started breathing again? I'd rather have a false alarm at 3 am then wake up to a dead baby. If this prevents that, then it's totally worth it. It's my opinion that this would lower chances of SIDS risk-- I'm on board!
