2nd Trimester

Yeast infections and bleeding....

Started spotting yesterday and was concerned because of the amount so I went in to L&D like they told me to do the last time. First time it happened they thought it was sex but due to an overload of pregnancy *** hormones we know that wasn't the case this time. They tested me for a yeast infections which came back positive but I'm a little nervous about accepting this as the cause.

Anyone else go through something similar?

Re: Yeast infections and bleeding....

  • I spotted at 15 weeks and it turned out to be a YI.  It was coming from the outside, my skin was really irritated.

At 16 1/2 weeks, I spotted again and I knew this time it wasn't coming from the outside.  When they tested me that time, they said it was irritation from straining to go to the bathroom.  I was tested a week later for the YI to see if it was gone, and it was still there plus I had BV.  I really think that's what caused the spotting at 16 1/2 weeks, too.

  • The Dr said there was a spot of blood on my cervix so it's not the outside.... I googled BV but all of the ways to diagnose it seems to be pretty specific and it doesn't look like they'd find it unless they were specifically looking for it. What made them test you for it? Just the re-occurrence of a yeast infection?

  • At 23 weeks, after a trip to Vegas and sitting on plastic casino stools all week when preg with DS, I had a LOT of bleeding.  Scared me TO DEATH.  It was a bacterial infection.  I took the meds, it cleared right up and I was GTG.  If you are unsure, ask them to test for it.  And once you have a problem with it, they'll test you for it a lot.  I went from bac to yeast to bac 10 Times that year, i SWEAR!!!!  Finally stopped the madness by taking yeast and bac meds together.  Also, I stopped going bare "down there," bought all brand new cotton undies AND only wash them ALONE with vinegar and Tide.  No softeners.  And an extra rinse.  All on hot.  Ya.  It was bad enough to do all that.

  • I'm also very careful about the soap I use there and rinse really, really well.  I think I was getting soap in places not meant for it.  LOL

  • OMG.  I just realized I better clarify-  By going bare down there, I mean that I stopped shaving/waxing.  I still clean it up and keep it neat, but I am not totally bare anymore.

  • Um.... so just to further clarify....

I er..... like to go camando (with pants only) .... that is.... bad?

And, when you said stopped shaving....why is shaving bad?

And, as far as soap..... cleaning up with soap is... what? Ok, or not? I rinse really well but I do, um, scrub down there...

I had an OB appt at 17 1/2 weeks and mentioned that I thought the yeast was still there.  He then tested me for yeast and ran the bacterial cultures.  I think he may have noticed a slight odor or something, because he said later they don't usually run that test unless you're having symptoms.  I have a sneaking suspicion that if they would have done it in the ER at the 16 1/2 week spotting scare, they would have found that I had it.  But they only tested my urine for infection.  I have no symptoms of BV and there are still traces of it there, but it usually clears up with antibiotics.  I've tried several different things to get rid of it.  I haven't had any more bleeding, though.  You very well may NOT have an infection, it could just be that your cervix is very sensitive!  That was just my experience and what I think the bleeding was from.  I spotted in first tri and they chalked it up to a sensitive cervix because I was on progesterone.

My OB said the vagina is self cleaning, and not to scrub it with soap.  I was scrubbing it a lot before he told me that.  He says it's best not to shave so I just keep it trimmed down there.  I don't remember what the reasons were, I think just from what he's seen in his line of work that more people have problems that shave.  I wear underwear during the day, but after I get home and shower, I don't put any on with my pj pants, and I don't sleep in underwear.  I was wearing pantyliners for a while and I think they were making things worse.

  • IDK if you'll see this.  I forgot to look back!!  Anyways..  I would wear panties for awhile and see if it helps.  Some of the fabrics we wear, vajayjay's do not like...  I stopped shaving bc a MW told me that the hair is Meant to be there, to protect your lady bits, and shaving/waxing takes it all away.  IDK.  She gave me some spiel, and when I looked it up myself, there was a lot of support for it.  You have all this stuff from detergent and fabrics and stuff right against it, and it makes for a bacterial/yeast wildfire.   I can't let it go wild.  I just can't.  So, I DO keep it decent, but when I say hair, I mean not just a cute V on top.  It needs some where the main event is.  LOL  THAT's what you're trying to protect.  Also, some soaps and fragrances can throw off your pH, which is what gives you the bac infection.  You have to have this perfect balance of yeast and bac.  When one goes out of control you got a problem.  So, I found for me, that cotton with no softeners or detergent left on(extra rinse), and some au natural grooming FINALLY did the trick.  DH got over it.  I told him, if I can do what I do to him With hair.  Then he can Certainly do it for me.  Or no one will be doing it for anyone.  LOL  Also, I did not have sex for two weeks while clearing it all up.  His guys can throw your pH off, too.

  • Tehehe....

Yeah, I was doing the V thing. I'll try to trim. I let it wild once (there was this evil ingrown hair thing) but it was driving me nuts so I went back to shaving.

I really need to get some more preggo panties. I mostly have those damn thongs which have started to annoy the crap out of me. That's mainly why I've been doing the commando thing.

*sigh* I really hate hairy lady bits Huh?

  • Ok, so scrubbing is out but how should you clean it? Any soap? Just water?  I mean babies get wiped down during every diaper change and I've heard they sometimes but some harsh things in those...

I might not reply back tonight... DH is home and for whatever reason I find this topic easy to discuss w/ strangers and embarrassing as all heck to discuss w/ himStick out tongueWink
