  • You don't avoid it. You just keep the crib empty (no blankets) and let a baby that rolls sleep how she wants.

  • I have the same problem! I like these pillows....they helped me out a lot with my first and now my second. I have seen them at Target.

    This.

It's a developmental milestone, so look at it as a good thing.

  • Let her roll and sleep how she wants. DO NOT use sleep positioners or blankets/pillows.
  • Don't hold your child back because of your own paranoia. This is just the beginning of her growing up, you have to let her.

This.  My pedi said that according to the Amer Acad Pediatrics that you don't have to roll a 4 month old baby back on to their back if they fall asleep on their stomach.

  • Take the blanket out of the crib and let her roll if she wants to. It won't hurt her.

  • Once they are rolling let them sleep on their bellies.  It was super scary at first, and sometimes DD is face planted, but as long as nothing is in there with her she is fine.  She totally moves around when she needs to.

Now if only she would stop night crawling and hitting her head... sigh...

  • There is nothing that you can or should do. It is fine that she is rolling over. That's what babies do. Don't keep anything in the crib that is dangerous and she will be fine.

This, and ditto pp's NO sleep positioner.

Just to reiterate, please don't use this! There is a large chance that a baby that old will slide down the ramp and get her face against one of the pillows. Completely not safe for any baby!

  • I would be more concerned about the strangulation/suffocation risk of the blankets than of her rolling.  Babies actual develop most of their gross motor skills at night.  You shouldn't restrict it.

  • I agree!  My little one did the same thing,  but I looked it up in my What to Expect book,  and  it said it was ok!  Let her roll over if that makes her the most comfortable.  Just make sure her arms are free,  not in a swaddle.

NOTHING in the crib.  That sleep positioner is scary.

If she is strong enough to roll over,  she is strong enough to pull herself up when she's on her belly!

If you are still nervous,  do extra tummy time during the day,  to make her even stronger.   That's what I did.
