When I was little, I had a favorite book. Super pink puffy heart favorite book. I insisted it was read to me over and over and it was the first book I read when I learned to read myself. Well, long story that I won't go into, my mother lost all of my childhood things (baby blanket, baby book, first tooth, etc.) including this book. So after DS1 was born, I got nostaligc and wanted so much to buy a copy to read to him. So I searched for it......
Only to find out it was written by Sylvia Plath, yes *the* Sylvia Plath, and not only is the book no longer in print, but it would cost an arm and a leg to get a copy. Of course, after paying that much, no way would I let the kids near it. And here my copy was almost perfect, with a small tear on the front cover. THANKS MOM.
Re: Speaking of kids books (or another reason to hate my mom)
On the verge of looking stupid....
?
Who is Sylvia? ?
?
Yes, Dai, I know I could google it, but I want *you* to explain it to me.?
Cool! I didn't even know SP wrote a kids' book.
A friend of mine in University bought a really old copy of a Nancy Drew book from a garage sale to use in our Children's Lit class. Turns out that it was a first edition (of the first book of the ND series) and it was worth thousands. I can't remember how much she ended up getting for it though, but I think she only paid .25 for it to start with.
Very Cool...
This one on Ebay is not that pricey if you really loved it that much...

R9: Sylvia Plath - author, first poet to win Pulitzer Prize, she wrote The Bell Jar which might be where you would know her
prism: no that's a reasonable price actually, I would pay that. I'm going to keep my eyes open though b/c that's a softcover and mine was hardcover. Not that it really matters, but I don't know, I kind of want it to be just like mine.
