Toddlers: 24 Months+

Found DS sleeping in his closet this AM

DS had been getting up the past two nights. He just sits at the top of the stairs or looks out his window.

The first night we put him back to bed several times and finally decided to close his door (no nightlight). He screamed for a minute but fell asleep in his toddler bed.

Last night the same thing. I heard him crying this morning so I went in and couldn't find him, his bed wasn't warm. I call for him and he is in his closet. Apparently he slept there all night.

We have hardwood floors. He sleeps warm so we don't dress him too warmly. I don't know what to do. My friend said she did this when she was little because she was mad. I'm not sure if we should put a night light in or keep up with the usual door cracked/hall light on. We thought closing the door helped him sleep, he told us he slept better with the door shut. IDK. He's 27 months.

  • At least he isn't scared of his closet:)  I would just remind him that beds are for sleeping and closets are for clothes.

  • we have a puppygate in the doorway of dd's room to keep her contained. i cannot tell you how many times i've seen her asleep on the inside of her puppygate rather than her bed when i get up in the morning. the way i see it, eventually she WILL sleep through the entire night w/out waking up and getting out of bed.

  • DS does this all the time.  He likes sleeping in there...he'll drag his blankets, pillows and stuffed animals in with him.  He also loves sleeping on the floor and will lay everything out to sleep on.  I don't really care where he sleeps as long as he sleeps...but do tell him to leave the closet door open if he's in there.
