Sleeping arrangements for toddlers while traveling

Jumping over from 12-24 but I was wondering where your toddlers sleep when you travel to either a hotel or stay with family and friends.  We just moved DD to a toddler bed and I now realize we have some short trips coming up and I don't know where she will sleep.  What do you do?

Re: Sleeping arrangements for toddlers while traveling

  • We'll be staying in a hotel when we go out of state to visit family.  DD will probably be back in the hotel room crib for those few days.  If we were staying with family, we would borrow their pack n play.

  • We switched DD to a toddler bed in January. We've done a bunch of trips since then:

    1. slept in a regular crib

    2. DH converted a crib to a toddler/day bed

    3. Slept btwn DH & I in a king bed (just one night)

    4. Slept on a pull out sofa bed with chairs and cushions as a barrier

She also has a nap mat from daycare - when she stays at my parents' house, she usually sleeps on that.

  • pnp or let LO sleep with you if necessary.
  • We have a couple of extra bedrails that we take with us when we travel.  We usually just stick those on a guest bed and she sleeps there.

  • He would either sleep with us or sleep in a spare bed with pillows around him. He RARELY sleeps with us at home, but sometimes it's just easiest when we travel.

  • You can do a pack n play, rent a crib, have her sleep with you or get one of those cots/blow up beds for toddlers. We did a PnP when we traveled.

  • DD usually sleeps with us, and DS sleeps in a PNP.

  • We have Phil and Ted's travel cots, but if DH hadn't splurged on thoses I probably would have done something like Peapods.  I like having the ability to contain DDs, particularly if we are in an unfamiliar place that isn't childproofed.

  • We took a trip to DC this past spring and both boys stayed in PNPs... and this summer at camp they also slept in their PNPs... next summer when we head back to camp we will probably get cots or something for them to sleep on.

  • We have taken a PNP when driven and stayed in a hotel and borrowed one when we visited family
  • We have the Aerobed inflatable toddler bed that we take on trips a lot. But DD has also slept in a pull-out sofa bed and a queen bed on recent trips. For the queen bed, we rolled up the covers from both queen beds in the room and put them on either side so she wouldn't roll of, but she never has.

  • We always request a PNP and bring our own sheets. But she never sleeps in it, she sleeps between us in a King bed. However, if we get a suite we could put the PNP out there for her to sleep. DH doesn't like for her to fuss/cry for 3 seconds because it could bother people in nearby rooms so it's usually just easier for her to sleep with us. If we're in a room with 2 double beds for some reason, one of us sleeps with her -- bed is way to small for all three of us and mama doesn't sleep well with kicks in the face at night!

She never sleeps with us at home so this takes some adjusting for sure! We lay her down awake in her crib and she falls asleep on her own. I think in a few months we'd be open to trying her in her own bed at a hotel...but not just yet.
