Car mirror to look at babies while driving?

Anyone recommend a brand? I don't really understand how these things work.

  • We've had a couple, but by far our favorite is the Sunshine Kids Easy View. You can see so much more, and more clearly, than most of the others.

A lot of people say you shouldn't have mirrors because they can become projectiles in an accident and they can potentially distract the driver, but for us we really needed them when the kids were young (they used to choke and stop breathing, and we'd have to pull over if we saw them changing color). We keep them in now because it's just easier to be able to see them and have them be able to see us.

  • We love our Fisher Price car mirror.  We actually just bought a second of the same kind so that we have one to allow us to see both babies.  Not sure exactly what it's called but it lights up and plays music at the touch of a remote control button.  I found this to be a sanity-saver when my DD1 would start crying while I was driving.  I'd just push the remote and she'd almost always stop crying to watch/listen to the lights and music.

I think I have the same one, Rainforest pattern, I think. It was a godsend with my 3 yr old. We used it all of the time since I always seemed to be driving my older son somewhere, school, scouts, choir, etc.

We went through a lot of batteries on that thing but it was so worth it. (I can still have the melodies in my head, lol.)  I'm getting another one just like it so I'll be able to see both babies.

These are great because they are actually double velcro strapped to the headrest, not just a little dinky suction cup that falls down easily. So maybe that's less risk of a projectile. With all of the other loose kid crap I haul around on a daily basis with my other two, we have lots of issues anyways in that category Confused..

  • I have yet to purchase one of these, but was wondering if you get just get one and put it in the middle.  Do you think you would still be able to see both babies and they see you? Or do you think you need one for each baby?

I got the big kind, purchased at BRU and I have no idea what brand they are.  They both work fine.

  • I have two of the round Eddie Bauer ones.  They suck ass.  I'm lucky to see a baby's feet because they never stay adjusted right and are so small. I'd steer clear of those.

  • Just an FYI - the fireman that installed the carseats strongly recommended against having these mirrors.  He said they become projectiles in accidents and lead to accidents because of distracted driving.  We ended up deciding not to get them and it has been fine.

Our said the same thing too.  But we put them up anyway.  I absolutely cannot stand to not be able to see my babies when I am driving.

These are the ones we have used with all three kids and they love them!  They laugh and talk to their monkeys all the time.
