Hi Ladies -
Hoping you could help me out here... The last few loads of diaper laundry, I have noticed one or two fruit flies in a diaper in the diaper pail (which makes me feel gross and dirty). The hang out in between the suedecloth and PUL on the BG..
I dont have them in my house otherwise, so Im wondering if this is a normal phenomenon with CDs?
I do laundry every other day, so its not like im letting the diapers fester or anything....
Re: Fruit Flies?!
We have a flip-top plastic garbage can with a pail liner in LO's room, and then a hanging pail in the living room (where most of the diaper changes occur)
I mean, its not an infestation or anything, but the few flies I see are annyoing, and mildly gross.
We have not had any fruit flies at our diapers, but we do randomly get them in the kitchen (even when it's spotless). We have found that putting a small amount of apple cider vinegar in a dish or clean baby food jar and adding a squirt of dish soap helps get rid of them fast!
We eat a lot of fresh fruit during the summer and, sadly, seem to always have a few hanging around during warm weather. They are sometimes referred to as "drain flies" because they tend to lay eggs in drains. If you have more than one or two then they are very difficult to truly get rid of until the weather gets cold. The reason for this is that their life cycle is only about 24 hours. So... they are constantly regenerating themselves. We have used apple cider vinegar traps. And if you run water down ALL your sinks for several minutes a day, every day, for several days in a row that will help a ton.
That all said, to the extent you have any fruit flies in the house, they will most definitely seek out the diapers.
Hmmm - I did see some near my kitchen drain the other day... Ill try your suggestions - thanks!
