Stiff fingers... I feel like my grandma.

For the last week everytime I wake up in the morning all my fingers are really stiff. My thumb has even been getting stuck bent and when I straighten it out, it makes a weird popping noise. Today the stiff fingers hurt. I know it's common in pregnancy and I'm not worried about it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to make it less painful? I'm drinking a ton of water and since I've had heartburn I'm eating Tums like candy so the calcium is covered. I don't know if there's anything else to try or not. Thanks in advance.

  • I feel your pain! I too have the same problem for a few weeks now. I have no idea how to get rid of it but i think it's something to do with our circulation getting cut off at night. I try to keep my arms straight and that has helped a bit.

  • Add potassium, a banana or glass of OJ (and then you'll need the TUMs after the OJ).

    Good Luck!

  • I am glad you posted this because I was wondering if this was normal.  I have had it too for about three weeks...I assumed it was given all the other stuff that happens to us:-)  I, of course have no suggestions...
  • No suggestions, but your description is how my carpal tunnel started out.  It's miserable and I feel your pain (only now my hands alternately hurt and are numb).  I have largely learned to tune it out so that I can function.

  • I don't have any suggestions :(.  I do have this problem though.  I try to move them a lot throughout the morning to make up for the lack of movement at night.

  • My thumbs are stuck every morning. My doc says that is just part of being pregnant and no suggestions to fix it :( We're almost there.

  • I have been having this problem along with hand and wrist pain. Beginning of Carpal Tunnel my doctor says and it should go away after pregnancy. I bought wrist braces yesterday and wore them to bed last night. the pain was much less and I was not as stiff. It seemed to keep everything straightened out. Ask your doctor and they may be able to give you some or write an RX. mine were 14$ each at Walmart.
