Part of me wants to say 7 days with no accidents. But I'm reading a lot online where other moms are making this declaration under much less strict criteria.
I guess i have higher PTing standards. I will consider him fully PTed when he can say he needs to go, go to the bathroom and pull down his pants, go potty, pull pants back up and with no accidents. I consider my ds partially trwined as we still struggle with pooping on the potty.
We are in the midst of PTing by my standards. He poops and pees on the potty, goes by himself, but needs help wiping. He will go a week or so without accidents, but will still have an occasional one out of the blue. We also put a pull up on him for nap and bedtime. As long as I'm assisting him, I feel like I'm still PTing to some extent.
DS born via c/s 11/08 and med-free GD VBAC DD 3/11!
I consider my son PT because he's in underwear all day, every day. He has accidents every so often, but the majority of the time he goes in the potty and has no trouble telling me he has to go.
I declare PT when they stay dry/clean for daytime, naps and bedtime. No accidents are a given but mine didn't have accidents after like day 3. However, I don't think them having to take themselves to the bathroom, get on the potty, wipe and wash hands all by themselves is a requirement. My kids were fully PT at 15 & 17 months old and there is no way physically they could do that- but they could stay dry for daytime, naps and bedtime and would tell us when they had to go.
Underwear during awake times with only occasional accidents
I agree. She needs help getting onto the toilet because she's too short to do it herself, (otherwise I'm sure she'd do it alone), so I'm still in there with her each and every time she needs to go. She does a great job of telling us that she needs to go though and rarely has accidents. Most naps are in undies, and even though we do a diaper overnight she almost always wakes up dry. I consider her potty trained.

Re: When do you declare them "potty-trained?"
I guess my standards are low.
